MG TD TF 1500 - Part # AKD 658 A :-)

Hi All:
I have been looking for an original TF Operation Manual since I bought my TF and finally gave up and ordered a repro from Moss Motors . . . good buy if you do not have an original. I spend an enjoyable morning reading it and it brought back many memories of reading a similar BMC owner’s manual when I purchased my Sprite new in 1963.

A couple of things come to mind as I read the TF manual . . .
1: . . . .
On page 58, #1 WARRANTY CERTIFICATE
(a) Completion of the Warranty Certificate ‘tear-off slip’ at the time of vehicle purchase when sent to the Factory will ensure registration of ownership by the British Motor Corporation.
(b) Retention of the Owner’s portion of the Certificate, signed by the Distributor and Owner, in a safe place in the vehicle (by quickly establishing ownership) will help to expedite any adjustments under Warranty if such adjustments are required to be carried our by a B.M.C. Distributor or Dealer other than the supplier of your vehicle.

MY QUESTIONS: Does anyone have a copy of the original form? Is there a reproduction available? Does anyone have a copy of the Tear-off Slip signed as directed?

2: . . .
On page 16 TOOL KIT
(The tools supplied may vary or be omitted from time to time as a result of the steel supply situation or design modifications)

MY OBSERVATION: This statement certainly speaks to the conditions for manufactures in Britain in the early 1950’s. When would we ever see such a statement in an Owner’s Manual of a modern car?

3: . . .
On page 4, GENERAL DATA

Tyre pressures:
Fully equipped, two up … … Front 18 lb./sq. in. etc. etc.

MY QUESTION: To those people that speak English (this being different than the language spoken in the Colonies (and former Colonies): What does “Fully equipped, two up” mean in relation ship to tire pressure????

....fully equipped ... all accessories? and two up....two persons in the car?

Fully eqiupped.....Petrol tank full, tools etc.
Two Up.......driver and mate.

In theory two chaps & 14 stone and 12 Imp. gallons of petrol would weigh a lot, percentage wise on a TF.

We run out bias plies at 18 psi

Blimey, John, you gotta let this Limey stuff rub off on you. I'm a Londoner.
