MG TD TF 1500 - Painting Fan Blade Tips?

Would painting the fan blade tips yellow look weird or should I paint the whole fan assembly yellow? I don't like the black fan for safety reasons. I got a slight nip from it on my glove, while tightening a hose clamp with the engine running. I know I should have shut the engine down, but! PJ

PJ,

When I had my TD engine rebuilt years ago by a British MG mechanic, he painted about two inches of the end of each blade silver as a safety measure. I guess he had the same experience as you. The blades are quite easy to see much like airplane props. Recently I have installed an MGB five bladed fan which comes in a nice bright yellow.

I'm making this decision as we speak. I think I've decided to go either solid black or solid yellow. I even thought about painting a yellow circle on each blade, near the end. That might look less "spitfire wannabe" than painting the tips. Post a pic if you do something two-tone!

My blades are painted yellow, and I think it looks good, as well as a great safety feature. Not original, but who cares, it is my car, and your car is yours to do as you like. Let's enjoy these little cars and have some fun.

After learning the hard way (no gloves), I painted the last two inches of the fan blades yellow

Well, thanks guys, I guess my thinking isn't that far out in left field after all. Now for the color, Chartreuse maybe? Only joking! Probably all yellow, as I have some left over from painting the MGB fan, which I know is very visible when running. Even though I'm a nut on correctness, If it's not a concourse restoration, minor safety improvements I think is a good thing, as in improving the braking system for one. JMHO. PJ

If you paint them British Racing Green, they will cool better. It's been proven scientifically.
