MG TD TF 1500 - Opinion On Latest Moss Rear Crankshaft Conversion
| Finally commissioned the engine on my TF yesterday, everything appeared fine until I looked under the car to observe a massive puddle of oil. Further investigation revealed it was flowing from the drain hole in the bell housing. Damn frustrating as the TF restorer was purchased as having the motor completely overhauled. Its an engine out task to get to the bottom of the leak. Whilst removed from the car I intend to do everything possible to address all the engine design faults. My research reveals Moss believe they have addressed the issues with their conversion kit, I am enquiring if anyone has had favourable results installing this item or am I better to install the Andy Bradley option. In advance thanks for your thoughts. |

| My experience with the Moss rear main seal kit is 100% positive. No leaks anymore. Look in the archives for more information from various users. Jasper |

| I am also like the Moss oil seal. The first one I put on years ago with the original sea material worked fine until I raced in a hill climb and floated the valves. That's when it started to leak, not bad but progressively worse. When I changed it out I put in a seal with the new compound. However, it is in the fitting details where it seems to fail. I have yet to see a crank flange which is smooth enough to run a lip seal on. Also, you will find that you will have to hang the speedy sleeve off the crank flange toward the engine because the lip for the seal sits far enough back that it doesn't actually ride on the crank flange. | From what I've been told, the issue with the older ones was that the seal was not rated for a high enough speed, and it would wear out prematurely. I have the new version on my TC and it doesn't leak a drop, but the car doesn't run either. ;) |
