MG TD TF 1500 - OMGTR Fall GOOF
| Drove up to Elora Ontario this morning (at 5:30 am) to join just the Saturday part of our fall GOOF.... one of our members had his MKII out for the first time after restoration....very nice car. He mentioned that out of the few (10 or so) MKII's which stayed in Britain, his was the 2nd last made....not sure if that means the 2nd last made in total....anyway...very nice right hand drive MKII The numbers didn't show up on the production records page...both this number and the next are missing.... He also mentioned that the carbs are the originals to the car, however, he thinks they are what would later be put on the TF as they are not MKII's..... All very interesting..... http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150388543266111.411627.544516110&l=4d77069340&type=1

....again interesting...after I posted and looked at the photos, the brass octagon on the engine is the right plaque, but on a different block?

Awhile back some one wanted a good photo of the "plinth" on the rear bumper of a TF. Gordon's 4th of 5 photos under image above is a good view.

I remembered that post and took the photo for it...however, this one looks a lot like it was made of aluminum by someone during the restoration....not sure?

Must have had a major engine failure to replace the engine. That number above the tag is pretty much the only way to tell. Some consider that falsification. When I had to replace my engine I considered replacing the tag with my original but decided that telling anyone who I might sell the car to (not likely) why the number did not match rather that trying to pass it off as the original engine.

| Gordon, It appears that TD 29143 is registered as a TD not as a Mk II It can not be found under TDC 28143 un the register see the files I sent via email too bad we cannot look up under engine number Don H

Don... I'm confused...the car is TD/C 28149 ?
gblawson(gordon- TD27667)
Running that thru the system engine no matches what is on the car plate. build date 29 May 1953.

Don, how did you paste that record in your note?
Tom Maine (TD8105)
Gprdon, Sorry, these old eyes read it as 28143 not 28149 You are right!!!!! Tom I just saved it as a jpg picture file using Mac SnapZ to select a screen image picture . Similar programs exist for Windows. Then I used the BBS feature to upload a picture

Friends - this seems to be - according to the ID plate - TD/C 28149, which is a genuine TD/C number. It came from Abingdon with engine TD3/28358. All the plates on this car are reproductions, which is always suspicious, of course. The dumb iron ID stamping is the only sure place to look to be sure this is a genuine TD/C car; I have never seen a fake stamping there (although now that I have said that...). The engine on this car has been replaced, as evidenced by the 29915 stamping on the block abov e the engine ID tag; that is not a TD/C engine, according to my records - although it is quite late in the run. That engine was originally supplied in car TD29563, made July 20, 1953. As for his belief that this is the second-to-the-last UK (ie non-EXR) TD/C car made out of 10, it is in error. After this car, there were 22 non-EX TD/C cars produced, all presumably for the UK. I can provide ID numbers if anyone would like to know tham. I continue to work on my history of Mark II cars, and appreciate this sort of opportunity to apply what I have learned. At least it is good for something. I'd be happy to communicate with anyone having a Mark II question. Tom Lange Bar Harbor, Maine

Thanks Tom..I took those photos for your benefit as I didn't know if you had that one in your records... This was his first time out and I saw him the next day at Bronte as well....he certainly did a top notch restoration..... he was being kidded about having his overflow pipes on the wrong side of that little plate and was quite concerned about moving them.....
