MG TD TF 1500 - oil pressure on start up
I have installed my oil filter conversion (the round piece that allows a modern filter). The install is fine (no leaks etc.). My question is, before the conversion on a cold start up my oil pressure jumped right up to 50 - 60 range almost immediately. Since the conversion it takes a short while before the gauge reacts. It still rises to the same level but it definitely takes longer before it moves. In truth we are only talking a few extra seconds but it is noticeable. Once hot it jumps right up as it did before. Is this anything I should worry about? Has anybody else had that happen? Thank you all in advance. ..... Chris

Chris, Your filter is probably slowly draining back, and the pump fills it before it distributes the oil (and creates pressure) in the rest of the system. When hot, it hasn't had time to drain all the way. Try a different brand of filter with a better anti-drain set up. Since I run the original hoizontal canister, I can't help you with a better choice. But someone else can let you know what they use. warmly, dave

I have been using Fram and Carquest filters and have not had a noticable lapse in time for pressure to build up,,,, SPW

Dave & Steve, Thank you for the thoughts. I'll try a change of filter. ... Chris

This study (with new updates) has been mentioned in the past. Filter anti-drain back valves are discussed. The study may be of help in comparing different oil filters. http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oilfilters/index.html Larry
