MG TD TF 1500 - Oil Filter Conversion for Early TD
Hello All - I am trying to track down a phone number and email address for Richard "Butch" Taras - who I believe is producing the oil filter conversion for the early TDs. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Abingdon Spares carries a conversion - but it lists for $265.00 - trying to avoid that if possible. Thanks in advance, Jeff

jeff I have an early td and have a conversion that was made by Bob Gruneau. It is a high quality item and at the time wasn't as expensive as the one you list. I believe that if you sign on to the T-ABC web site you will find Bob under the items for sale. Great guy and very knowledgable. Brian

I concur with Brian. I have an older TD with a vertical filter and used Bob's spin on adapter.

Jeff The only other thing I would add is to check your two oil pipes carefully and if they look at all weapy change them out. I had the pipe from the canister to the block begin weaping and was really concerned that I would have a major problem as we use our TD as much as possible. I have since replaced both pipes with the braided ones being sold on Ebay and they have cured the problem totally. I know there have been a few comments on these recently but so far mine appear to do the job very well and I have put a fair number of miles on the car. Just an observation. Brian

i was talking to Bob Grunau and I know he makes the conversion and it looks good. Give him a call. He is a wealth of info for the oil pumps and filters.

I got rid of my solid pipes also. John Seim who is on this board once in a while is the one who makes the braided conversions. Mine have been on for three years with no problems.

I bought a oil filter conversion that looks the same as the oiginal unit but has a screw on aluminium plate at the bottom. There is a replacable element inside. Not as clean to replace as a spin on filter but it looks much better. I can post an image and supply source if anyone is interested.

I have one of Bob Grunau's oil filter adapters -- takes a Ford Taurus filter. Beautifully machined, solid, easily installed. As I told Bob when it came, I wish everything I bought for the car was as well made.

Here are a couple of images of Grunau's adapter, which I am holding. Personally, I like the look of Butch Taras's oil filter adapter, it is better polished and has a raised flange to seat the hold down clamp on. Cheers Phil
