MG TD TF 1500 - off topic-twin cam

I know that this is off topic, but not something that one sees everyday; 2 twin cam MGAs on ebay at the same time!

you should definitely post a copy in the MGA section, it´s less off there...
Althoug I´m a big fan of the MGA, from what I´ve read on the twin cam, it´s quite care intensive, so not necessarily priority one if I´d have to choose...

....great cars....had one in the family and had a few really scary rides...

The first one obviously is looking for someone to finance the rest of the rebuild. Maybe if I lived next door and knew these guys...? Is this a common practice?

I cringe on this topic. When I was in High School I could have bought a twin cam that was sitting in a friends yard. I had not started my love of British Iron at that point.

Ah, the ones that got away.

Not really a common practice, though some shops will restore cars and find customers later. Classic Showcase does top-notch Jaguar restorations and then sells them, for example. I'm guessing that someone put the car into restoration then had to back out, considering that some portion of the work had been done.

Alcorn has a sterling reputation for his MG work and I doubt he needs, or wants, to start restorations on spec.

He indicates that the price is fixed. That is reputable in itself. There are many stories out there of people that had openended relationships with restoration shops, where fortunes were paid out over extended periods...sometimes years!

To All
I just finished a year long restoration project with Mr Alcorn. He is honest to a fault. The work done on my car , a late production TF 1500, was spectacular and the paint match to the original was beautiful.aside from small annoyances with parts quality from Moss, the job went off quite well. My guess is that Jim has too many cars in his shop My car was sent to a satelite locaton for engine fine tuning after completion of the assembly of the car. I've been going to La Jolla every Wed to work on my own car and the three twincams for the past year. I am happy to say that the work done is 1st class and concientious.
Anyone who buys a car from Jim is assured of a quality product.

Elsewhere on this site , regarding the MGA twincam it states:
"The Twin Cam production ended in April 1960, after 2111 cars. About 50 went to the USA"
I did not realize that so few where exported. Is that figure accurate?
