MG TD TF 1500 - Need a Connecting Rod
Dad and I have been trying to locate a sound that is similar to valve lash and have had the head off the TF a few times now. We thought that maybe it was a wrist pin on #3 cylinder since it did not top out as high as the other pistons. We dropped the pistons out of #3 and #4 and found that we had two different connecting rods. #3's was "MOWOG 24005*75" and it is .098" shorter than the other three which are "MOWOG 24005*76". We have driven the car this way since we got it in 2000, so it by itself isn't the source of the noise. But it does translate to a lower compression than the other three, and (in our typical fashion of over-complicating things,) think that we would like to get the right con-rod. So, how do we go about finding a single "MOWOG 24005*76"? (We really don't want to go to the expense of getting a full new set.) Anybody have one sitting around? Anybody know a source to try? Thanks for your help. Safety? Fast? Scott Ashworth - '54 TF

Scott, I probably have a spare 24005*76 con rod. Can you send me an email if you are still looking? Cheers, Hugh Pite jenntoo@shaw.ca

Since part of the fun of this web is learning, can someone tell me what the two different rods are from? I have a couple sets of rods but will have to pull them and look at the numbers.

Scott In the event the one from Hugh falls through, there is a old used set on ebay now. Posted today. Item number 220904464831 Tom '54 TF
