MG TD TF 1500 - Mobius

After working on the car for a year I finally thought of a name for it. Not only does everything take twice as long as I expected but there is definitely a never ending path of maintenance.

Mort TD 1851

Perfect name. Wish I had thought of it myself. "...never ending path of maintenance." said it all. Mort, you a math guy, or just know about Mobius strips?

I have yet to come up with a name for my TF, but it will come....someday. Nice going on the name for yours.

John,
Not exactly a math guy just a couple of degrees in engineering. I have been familiar with Mobius strips for a long time but it took all year for me to put it together with my car.

I wonder if it is legal to paint the trema (diaeresis) mark over the O on my license plate?

Someone has finally solved the origins of our dear Mr. Cecil Kimbers much-debated riddle!
M. G. / Mobius Garage.
David Sheward

Mort, go for it and see what happens.

David, I'm LOL. Very creative indeed. Gad, you may have started something here.

Very, very clever!! George

Funny,

one of the descendants of Mr. Moebius is a great fan of MG's.
Rolf Moebius (Möbius) of Hilden, close to Duesseldorf/Germany owns a VA roadster since more than 40 years and also loves to drive his custom MG 1100 Thickford DHC.
We first have meet each other more than 35 years ago and Rolf (Rolli) Moebius became a through friend.

The name you have chosen for your car, I think, is to the point. Enjoy!
R.S. Ralph Siebenhaar

"Mobius Garage" IS going to be my standard answer for the "what does M.G. stand for ?" from this day on!

Thanks for that Mort!

I'd "go-4-it" on the plate.
I have never been questioned about my European style plate of front of the TF (same as Ohio Historcial Plate on rear "TF 1555".)
For that matter I only got asked once about plates I ran for years on my daily driver. Ohio issues a "county" sticker...lived in "Montgomery" county...but mine said "gomer" for years. When we moved to Perry county my truck said "gomer Perry" for years.

Ralph,
With his permission would it be possible for you to e-mail me his e-mail address. I would like to send him some photos after I have fixed the license plate.
Thanks,

Anybody know if this one is still in Chicago?
Gave it no thought back then ...but wonder if the artist had two M.G.'s !
(double mobius strip)
Think there was a "chrome" version as well in Chicago...down by the waterfront?

David Sheward

....make one out of paper, then take a pair of scissors and cut it right around the middle....great fun!

Mobious Mort,
Back to your car,,,, is that a tan windscreen strip on the cowl, or is it just the jpg coloring reversing on itself as a proper Mobious should????
SPW
STEVE WINCZE

Steve,
Funny you should mention it. The answer is both. Although there is some color distortion from my digital camera there is quite a bit of discoloration on my cowling strip.
I was going to post a separate thread on how to restore the rubber.
You see in the picture the rubber cowling and the cowl to hood strip. They are both about 6 months old but the windshield strip is all discolored.
Any suggestion are most welcome.

Do not use "Armor All" on it ...that stuff will make it worse! (why do they still sell that stuff?)

I have 2 products I have used on my rubber parts that do a good job, but can't recall the name of either off hand. Have to go to work but will try and look when I get home tonight and post them for you.

Mine looked about the same a few years ago when I replaced it the new one got that "pasty white look".
David Sheward

Try wiping the rubber strip with mineral spirits. As I remember mine had turned white (something to do with wax) in the package and I cleaned them with mineral spirits. I then used a Meguiars rubber treatment product that isn't shiny and does not contain silicone.
Dallas Congleton

Hummm,,, I've been using Armor All (ORIGINAL TYPE) for years an all rubber parts with great sucess!
SPW
STEVE WINCZE

Steve,
I think if you use it all the time maybe not a problem.
IMHO It's when you "stop" using it, rubber turns brown and I have seen dashboards get brittle, discolor and crack. (my old 280ZX)
There is the chance they changed the formula also as I quit using it 15+ years ago.
Was a little "too" shinny for me anyhow.
David Sheward

The "how to treat, recover, maintain the various rubber parts on an MG" should get it's own thread! A topic all of us would like to know about! Have an old bugle horn with rubber squeeze bulb that I've love to resurrect!
Randy

PS: Awesome and creative name Mort. Same as with sailing, naming your baby is a special part of the experience. Still looking for mine!
R Biallas

Randy,
Good idea! See new thread: "Care & Feeding - Rubber/Vinyl".
Mort, Worked for me!

BTW: Seriously considering changing the name of my garage from "Abingdon Hootersville North Anex" to "Abingdon Hootersville Mobius Garage".
Will I have copyright legal problems?

Cheers,
David

Go for it David.

I am painting the dots over the o in Möbius, on my license plate.
Mort 1950 TD Möbius

A little black paint and we are all set to go.
