MG TD TF 1500 - MGB front shock conversion
Has anybody considered fitting the MGB front shock conversion kit from Moss? I was wondering if it was possible to have the original wider top link reduced in width to fit the MGB shock absorber? Anybody done this?

CJ, What car do you want to put them on? $1000.00 is a lot for a set of shocks and their not even as original. A pair of old original shocks can be rebuilt better than new by Peter Caldwell for a little over $200.00. Here's what Peters rebuilt shocks look like on my TF. He will even paint them as you wish. After I sent them to him, I got them back in two weeks. PJ

I installed the SPAX front shocks on my B GT.... I loved them...14 easy adjustments (done with a sloted screwdriver) You do not dump the lever shocks, but you use them as an upper control arm, by removing the valve, and refilling the oil.... My car handled like it was on tracks..... I also upgraded the sway bar, and went to poly bushings, at the same time.... If you want to go back to the levers, just put the valves back in.(and remove the tubulars)...But, you won't want to. This is just my personal experience, and not a scientific report.... Edward

Paul J's shocks are so pretty , its a shame they are kepy under the wings. I too have rebuilt shocks from Caldwell and they work just fine just not the fancy paint job. mike m

Adding an anti sway bar from an MGB will do wonders for the handling...more then enough....

Can anyone remind me where the instructions for using the MGB swaybar can be found? Thanks. Tom

| CJ, Quite commonly done. To get MGB shocks, you don't need the special upper trunion (sold by B&G and, see pix, and very expensive). Ask Peter Caldwell at World Wide (http://www.worldwideimportautoparts.com/servlet/the-Lever-Shocks--dsh--Remanufactured-cln-MG-B-Lever-Shocks/Categories) to re-valve a set of TD/TF shocks. However expect to get a choppy ride as the MGB is a heavier car and revised valving will bring this to bear. Gord Lawson has offered some sage advice, and the addition of an MGB sway bar (many, MANY entries in the archives on this), will provide good handling w/o the choppy ride. You can start with this ... http://www.ttalk.info/ARB_systems.htm Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué.

CJ, I have the MGB shocks in the front of the TD since 2001...had to go to Brown & Gammons back then for the kit, but now Moss sells it. Love them! At the same time I put in a MGB sway bar and #420 springs...no roll, tight and sure. Bob Doc
