MG TD TF 1500 - Mark II Bumper Plinth

(This heading should weed out those not interested!)

I have an original aluminum bumper plinth from a late Mark II TD, and am considering having a foundary make up a few as-original castings. I would be happy to hear of interest, but off-line please.

I think plinth is the name is used when our friends on the other side of the pond can not think of a proper name for the part!!
As I am not very bright, what does the name plinth describe? ( other than bumper, & seat frame trim ?)

From the OED:
From the Greek for tile, brick, stone squared for building; by way of Latin.
a) The lower square member of the base of a column or pedestal.
b) A block of stone, etc. serving as a base or pedestal to a statue, bust, vase, etc.; also, the squared base of a piece of furniture.
c) The projecting part of a wall immediately above the ground. In masonry, the first stone inserted above ground.
d) figurative. A plinth-like base or foundation.

There's more, as you can also have "plinths" At the top of columns or in building facades.

So, you can see the idea of a transitional piece from the car to a part under consideration, the badge in this case. It carries the idea of both a foundation and a defining visual break.

Is it the same as an over-rider?

Say guys, before you go and have fun with Tom I'd suggest that you dig out AKD 834 and look at the Service Parts List, Section R, Mark II Supplement. On Page R.4 you'll find Part #500811, Plinth- rear bumper flash, 1 per car. Also Part #500812, Flash- bumper and bonnet, 3 per car. Bud

Sorry - I thought the heading would be clear - as mud!

Late Mark II's (after s/n 22613) had a cast aluminum base mounted on the rear bunmper at the center, with a "MARK II" emblem attached - part of the decorative Mark II package that also included "MARK II" badges on each side of the bonnet sides. The plinths are often missing, and I am considering having a few cast as original. Not the same as over-riders, and probably not of interest to non-Mark II TD/C owners, I suspect.

One response so far. Interest off-line, please.

Thanks for the info Bud and Tom.

Maybe the good folks at Abingdon Spares would order a batch?

Gene, I have attached a photo of a Mark II rear bumper plinth FYI, In a following message, I will attach a photo of an unknown owner's beautifully restored Mark II showing the plinth with badge attached and the pair of factory bumper reflectors. The overriders are also in view.

And here is the beautiful Mark II picture.

Jim,

Thanks...now I know what a *plinth* is and what it's supposed to look like.
