MG TD TF 1500 - Kudos to those who have done this in the car!
| Spent the afternoon pulling the pedal box of my '52 apart....This is with the body off, and the chassis on table-high stands.... WOW! What a miserable job...Even with full access to three sides of the pedal box, it was almost impossible to get the clutch pedal to move off of the key...Once the bolt was out, it took every bit of brain effort , and physical strength, to get the pinch-clamp to loosen enough to get the shaft to move... I screwed a bolt into the grease fitting hole, so I would have something to hammer on, without damaging the shaft. Even when the key was finally exposed, I had to carefully grab it with a locking plier to pull it out. If you have done this in the car, you are super human, in my estimation. Image attached...You can see the keyway finally exposed. Edward

| Dang Edward, with that thread title, I was expecting something X rated ;-) Yes, the pedal box and shaft is something I advise everyone to do only if someone has gun held to you head. It is perhaps the single worst job on the entire car. Cheers - Dave |

| Edward, I don't recall the shaft being quite that tight to drift out after removing the clinch bolt, you did first remove the circlip on the end of the shaft, I presume, sometimes it is not noticed, as it can be hidden by dirt and grime, if not that would certainly explian your problem. | Edward, At least you lucked out by not having the box cut up as some cars have been. Mine is in good shape also. My side plate was missing, so I had to fabricate a duplicate. PJ |

| Phil... Yes, I took the circlip out first. In fact, as I stated in the first post, I found a bolt to screw into the threaded grease hole, so I could pound away without damaging the end of the shaft... I'm going to repair the shaft wear, by building up the diameter, and re-turning it in the lathe... I am replacing the three bushings , as well. I think I will drill grease holes in the shaft, so it will get better lubrication. Image attached. You can see how far the shaft has recessed in the hole, with the bolt head sticking out. Edward
