MG TD TF 1500 - Knock down TC?
There is a nice looking BRG TC on eBay now, item number 220914024703. The listing states that it was assembled in Ireland, being one of 50 such knock down cars. I've not herd of this with TCs,does anybody have any more information on this? Thanks, -David

That is a nice TC but 54000+ seems a bit on the high side to me.know they are desirerable but man that is a lot of money.

David Abingdon supplied a total of 84 C.K.D. kit TCs to Eire over the period 1946-49. They were assembled by Booth Bros. of Dublin and then sold via Irish dealers. 98 TDs and 10 TFs all RHD were supplied the same way. Roy

Roy, any record of the chassis numbers of the RHD TDs sent to Eire?
Jim Merz
Jim The figures I quoted are taken from Clausager's book which he, I believe, extracted from the Nuffield Export statistics. From time to time I get asked to help U.K. owners claim a new or the original Irish registration number for their rebuilt/imported car. From my limited access to the surviving car records it seems they were shipped in batches, for example TDs 15629 - 15636 were all CKD to Ireland. Sorry I cannot help more. Roy

Thanks Roy.

There is/was a poster on this forum from I reland with one of the CKD TF's, complete with Irish identification plate. Matthew.

| The production records are funny. In the middle of the page my ledger sheets jump from TD15627 to 15642, without explanation for the missing numbers. I would have thought they would also list CKD cars in this usual place, but with a notation to indicate their different status. Roy - do you have any further CKD numbers I can look up? Thanks. | Tom You have put your finger on the problem trying to get precise production figures from the ledger sheets. It may be that TD15627-42 were all CKD cars but not neccessarily all to Ireland as TD CKD kits also went to South Africa. The reason for the missing numbers could be that Abingdon did not count CKD (boxes of unassembled components)as finished cars until such time as they received confirmation from the destination plant that the kit had definitely been built into a complete car and dispatched to the dealer. I have tried some of the additional numbers you gave and found that a couple came up as cars having spent some time in the UK with UK registrations, so it is a bit of a mystery but that is nothing new when trying to reconcile production figures without all the detailed records. | Roy, I own a RHD 53TD which was exported to malta not a CKD car, but I am at present restoring a 51 MGYA which is a CKD car, chassis no Y6641, engine no. XPAG/SC/X16608 REGISTRATION NO ZE 9231. Do you have any records of this car, I have had no success getting information from the southern Irish Tax office. I know this is a CKD car from Ireland as I trailered it from Wexford in January this year. You can confirm if the car was built in Ireland it will have a small shamrock etched into all the door and window glasses as my car has Regards Chris |

Chris I cannot help you with Y Type as my work is with the T Register only. If you have not already done so I suggest contacting the Y Register at mgccyregister.com Roy
