MG TD TF 1500 - interior

I am thinking way ahead here because I am still working on my engine and gearbox. My car was produced red with red interior. The more I look at it the more I think that is a whole lot of red. I was thinking of going red car with bisque interior, Does anyone have an opinion on the all red car.

Yeah, that is a lot of red. The most common color in a red car is the tan or biscuit (biege) interior (actually, I think they are two different colors, but what the hey)

But if you want to stand out, Red over Red can be done effectively, as long as the extior red is the right one... and doesn't clash with your upholstry selection.

good luck!

My TD (10855) was originally created as Autumn Red with a red interior. I think it's a great combination. Not so sure how I'd feel about MG red. Bud

Go with the biscuit!! It is classic. I intend to replace red seats with biscuit and even repainted the grill slats in anticipation of the change. The repainting was 2 years ago but I haven't gotten to the interior as of now.

I am not a big fan of the MG reds. I really prefer a darker red for the body. I like the red seats with the body but the door panels and other trim red also really starts to make the eyes bleed a little.

Rob, Little-T was Autumn Red with Red interior and I decided it was too much red as well. I plan to install biscuit interior from Heritage Upholstery one of these days. I have samples from Moss and Heritage and like Heritage's tan because it is less beige and more tan.

This is what mine looked like.

Sorry too quick on the button.

You have to ignore all the rotting wood, Kna***d engine and all the other woes I discovered when I got it home.

It's just got back from the paint shop and it's now Rosso Red and looks great.

I will replace the biscuit coloured interior and the dark brown hood but plan to put black wing piping rather than the biscuit as it will match the Running Board Rubber.

This is how it looks now in Rosso Red.

If it's good enough for Ferrari......

Color is kind of like art or music, everyone has different tastes and likes. Personally, I would go with red exterior and the tan or biscuit interior. If it was my own car I would do a darker red than the "MG Red". George

A picture most will have seen before showing factory original paint and upholstery.

According to import records over here, red-with-red was the most common combination. Biscuit upholstery was rarer.

My TF is MG red50878897909 with red interior; the interior being more like maroon actually. Love it!

Since TFs don't usually have running board rubber strips, why not use a polished metal fender bead? I know that purists will cringe at the thought, but I had used Moss PN 458-138 piping on my TD when it was repainted 30 years ago. It always got great comments, but checks with Moss in recent years resulted in "Not Available" Why Not?

Here is mine in red with tan interior and black wing piping a la AJ's (but a much older paint job!)

For the avoidance of doubt about my position in English Society I should point out that the picture of my car attached to my previous post was not taken outside my front door. My pad is somewhat more modest and totally lacking in welcoming lions on the doorstep!

I never remember seeing the car with all red interior. My father had the paint red with red seats and red carpet with black trim and door panels. I really liked it that way but really wanted to go as original as possible. And again, that sure seems like a lot of red.

I think I just need to go to a car show and look at the different interiors to make up my mind.

With red carpet it certainly would be a lot of red....the carpets were all black from the factory... i wouldn't put one colour seats with another colour side panels/dash.... thinking of resale at some point, it would reduce the price (or at least have everyone commenting on un-original)

I also suggest you stay away from red on red.

PJ Nel

I did red with the Moss tan interior... I like the way it turned out.
