MG TD TF 1500 - I'm home

Little under the weather the whole trip but pleased to be home, met some wonderful people both from this board and off. Hope to post a full report in the coming days when I'm feeling a little better.

LaVerne.

Great to see/meet you at Peg's Ham & Eggs Place
in Reno, Nv last Thursday--June 16-11.

Hope you and the MG are back on the road again soon.

Here's a teaser from the valve cover racing at Reno. 5332 miles from my house to the front door of the hotel all in the TF.

I think the one racer is not correct. Our rules state that it must have 4 wheels touching the ground. I see only three on the one on the leftin the second race.

Welcome home LaVerne and trust you are doing much better. I just arrived home myself an hour ago. Great trip, great to see you and some of the other guys who are on this message board. Meeting all the guys and your wife Doris was a highlight of the trip. Now back to the restoration of my TF so I can get it on the road like the rest of you. Never saw so many TFs in one place before, and most likely never will again.

Cheers -- John

Glad you got home okay and hope you are feeling better soon. Sorry I didn't get to meet you at Peg's on Wednesday but glad I got to see you in the park on Thursday. Two days down and two days back in my B was enough for me - don't think I could duplicate your feat. Really enjoyed the valve cover racing! Now, back to finishing my TD.

Time for me to weigh in. That red-eye from SF to Newark just about killed me. I used to do it regularly when I was in my fearless 40s and 50s!

What a great time. As John (Brickell) expressed, meeting in small groups allowed us to meet and chat - somthing not possible with 1,500 people in attendance. The breakfasts were great - Q-time, I believe its called!

I'm writing the entire event up for the TSO, and for those of you who don't get it, I will extract the article once the magazine is printed (expect at least 3 months). Also got lots of pix. To whet your appetite, attached is a picture of LaVerne with his valve-cover racer (sorry abt the guy in the background pulling up his pants).

LaVerne, with the look on your face it appears the racer went thru a pile of dog poo?? Did you win the race??

Didn't see "Bob II" go down the track ...but it sounded like the NOS did not kick in on 3rd gear change as planned!
David Sheward

Sorry for the "sour" look fellas. Bob II performed pretty well although he only won his first heat. Only qued up the loop for one heat David but he was a real crowd pleaser. Big thanks to David for the Sound on Bob II. Won 20 $ later on a " grudge match" against my brother inlaws "La Bamba" ( the black racer with Mario at the wheel". To be honest I was really feeling like crap when Gord took the photo. Won't bore you all with the details but hope to find out whats going on in a few days. Bob II did come home with a first place award in the "Rocker Cover Concours".

Better news our own Dan Craig brought home the first place award in the TD catagory with his beautiful Margaret. A very well deserved award in a very competitive class. Dan also brought home an award in the Rocker Cover Concours for his MGonster. Thats his green machine with the tail fin in the videos.

I did have some fun in spite of the health issues. Thats me doing all the giggling during the video.
LaVerne

George Raham and I attended the meet in his 51 TD in which he is celebrating 60 years of ownership this month.
We traveled over 2400 miles there and back and his little "black beauty" never missed a beat.
We met some great people from on and off this BBS and I can say that it was a wonderful time that has done many things for me 2 of which are 1)to really get on with my 54 TF restoration and 2)look forward to driving the blazes out of it when it is done:)
The weather there was great with 90+ temps but we left Alberta in the rain and came home to the same.... we are growing webs between our toes.
Overall summary "great people and great time".
Best Regards

LaVerne, much as I love driving those little cars, 5k plus miles would more than likely have an effect on me and my health. But, I bet it was a blast. Wish I could have been in Reno. Did MG 2001 here and it was a great time.
Tom Maine (TD8105)

iSN'T THERE A LENGTH LIMITATION ON VALVE COVER RACERS ?????? AND THE NUMBER OF WHEELS ???
