MG TD TF 1500 - I need a replacement front pully :-((
Well, I broke my front pully in the process of trying to remove it. I knew I was doing something that would not likely be a good idea, but for some reason I didn't change my plan. I'd like to know if someone has an orriginal front pully that I could buy. Or, can someone speak to the quality of the front pullys sold by moss or other suppliers. are the TDC marks okay? are the dimensions appropriate? etc etc etc. I'm thankful they are available, but sad that I broke my original one. Thanks for listening... looking forward to hearing back from theg group. Alex

I recently bought pulleys from Abingdon and Moss. TDC marks were different- I don't know which one was correct. However, the Abindgon pulley was made in England, with a glassy-polished sealing surface. It was finished beautifully all around. The Moss made in China (I think), the metal is so junky you can see and feel all of the porosity or inclusions with a fingernail. Hands down go with the English-made Abindgon Spares pulley. Geroge

Hi Alex Checked my inventory. Looks like I may have one. I will check tomorrow and send a picture to you.

Alex, If you can get a new SH pulley, that's fine, but assuming you kept the bits, it can be welded and at least kept as a spare. After all there's no real strain on it, only the fan/water pump belt! Cheers, John

John, Yes... that is a good idea. I considered it and thought about doing exactly that as I have an excelent welder right here in town. However, the cost involved in welding and then putting it in the lath to retrue the surfaces, and then the issue of ballance caused me to reconsider. I've just had the WHOLE unit ballanced to some rediculously small fraction of some measure I can't remember, and I'm concerned about having a problem with it. I'm thinking about going to abingdon spares for my replacement pully as it sounds like the build quality of Moss' unit may be suspect. Bruce, let me know what you have (feel free to contact me off list). I'm interested in having options. Alex

Alex, I have a used pulley if you're still in need of one. Contact me off list if interested. Michael

| So I ended up going with what Abingdon had to offer. For the record below is what I got. I was going to paint it up all pretty and red, but I'm quite impressed with the black and the "proudly made in England" decaling that I'll just leave it as is! It's a nice part that appears to have been very well made. It cost quite a bit more than going through LbCar Co's moss part, but I'd heard the quality slipped with Moss (or so it was reported). If someone has a recent Moss part, feel free to thow a photo on here for comparison. Alex
