MG TD TF 1500 - I guess it's done!
| Well, it started Nov, 2009 and it's now Aug 17, 2011 but I guess it's as done as it's gonna be. A quick picture taken today is attached. I hope to send a bunch more to Facebook and a video once I get my new Smartphone/camera "sorted". (I think it was designed by the same guy who designed our door latches!) In any event, thanks to one and all. You know who you are. This could NOT have happened without you guys!!! To say it's been a challenge is an understatement. Car show nearby this weekend. Grateful in CO, USA Ed

Congratulations Ed and thanks for the picture. The car looks great, and I know how you must feel sitting in it at last. It's not until you have spent the time and effort on the project, that you can feel the satisfaction of a job well done. Happy Motoring George

Am I the only one a little sad that Ed has finished? I've learned more, and had more hours of entertainment reading his posts than I care to say. What will we all do now? (Well done Ed - the car looks super!). .... Chris

Ed, The car looks great...enjoy!! My TD is currently faded acorn green. Your car looks to be the shade of green that I would like to paint mine with. Can I ask you what you used?
Steven Tobias
Thank you all once again. Not much of a smile, I agree. I'll have to do some more photos. Funny, you all see a nice car. I can't even see the paint job anymore. All I see when I look at that picture is brass door hinges. Steve, mine was also a very faded acorn green. It's now a "custom" BRG that my wife and I "formulated" at the counter of an auto paint supplier using color books and several test samples. The brand is the Sikkens Utech system. The codes would only apply to a Sikkens dealer I imagine but holler if you want them someday. I found the system very difficult to use and would not recommend it however. Ed

Ed, The car looks great! Remember early on we had talked about trying to get together in Telluride sometime? Well it looks like the time is fast approaching. It would be interesting to compare the two cars side by side as yours looks a whole lot like mine, but quite a bit fresher. Let me know when you are ready for a bit of a road trip.

Art, you have email.

Ed, You can't be done ...done's in California! (anybody remember that one?) I'm waiting for the leather bonnet straps!
David Sheward
Ed, lovely car at a great scenery. Sure you will enjoy driving her out there. Greetings, Huib
Huib Bruijstens
Look at it this way Ed, you don't have to worry about the paint chipping on the hinges now. I think they look fine..Hey I had mine chromed:)

Looks great Ed - I am jealous as I am just about to finish the final seal coat on all the sheet metal and then on to painting. I can hardly wait to get aquainted with 2000 grit!

Ed, your car really is beautiful. I am still on the engine and about ready to open the transmission that will hopefully not need rebuilding. I hope to have my car finished by this time next year but who knows. My wifes sister lives in Colorado Springs and we go there about three or four times a year. I don't know what city you are in but it would be great to come see your car and talk to you the next time we are there if you are not to far and you would not mind an intrusion. Rob

| Great looking car. You're right where I was in July 1977 after my street restoration and been enjoying mine for the 34 years since. John Quilter Eugene, Oregon

Rob, we live in Crested Butte, way over on the Western slope about 4 hours from the Springs. Lots to see and do here so holler if ever in the neighborhood and we have LOTS of Texans! Don Scott, my advice would be to pick one piece like a fender and do entire thing from start to final color sanding and compounding and see if you like the results. My nemisis was orange peel. Getting it flat is a life changing experience, trust me! If you don't like the results go back and try a single stage system (no clear coat). Better yet, start with single stage. Let us know how it's going. Ed
efh Haskell
Good job Ed (and Cindy and Bonnie)now drive the wheels off of it. I won't be up tomorrow but be sure to take lots of pictures.
LaVerne
Ed - I had already planned to use single stage so we will see how much "easier" that will be!
don scott
Ed, nice job! Beautiful. Color is great. Your threads during restoration & YouTube views are really helpful.

Congratulations Ed. Just be ready for the oohs and aahs and a myriad of questions. Kev S TF6288

| That's one HULLUVA paint job you did on that car ;-) My engine rebuild worked out the same way. "I'm just going to replace the broken crank and fix a few things here and there while the engine's out..." Nice work Ed. It's been way fun to watch the process. I also appreciate the use of modern media to document. As a younger buck amongst the crowd here, I've had trouble locating videos of certain jobs that would have been helpful. Like you, when I did something, I tried to put up a video or two of the process. Thanks for sharing the process with us and the community at large. What a treat to get to the driving part! Cheers!
