MG TD TF 1500 - how to protect the garage floor?
Hi Guys, a simple question for you: How do you protect the Garage floor against the exhaust soot? If I start my TD after a long "sleeping" period and especial with choke fully pulled out, there will be some soot coming out of the exhaust. Sure, I can have some rags on the floor but may be one has another clever idea? Cheers, Guenter

....get an old length of vacuum cleaner hose and stick it on when you park.... remove after you've started it.... soot will stay in the hose.... (throw away when needed)!

I just ordered one of these to put on the floor under the engine. I need something temporary till next winter when I hope to fix the leaks. Should work for the exhaust drip too. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_SPM217612442P

| Them boys up there in the Great White North are smart! What a great idea. They must get insparation from the surroundings. Canadian side of the falls ...better. Canidian side of Mount Rushmore ...well, different.

Why not treat the garage floor with a two-component coating? Than cleaning becomes an easy job to do.. Jasper

I treated mine with Rustoleum epoxy coating, including clearcoat. Soot, grease, oil just wipe off with most household cleaners (Fantastic, Greased Lightening, 409). I have no affiliation with any of these products. Ira

Ira, does the floor get very slippery when it gets wet?

You can buy exhaust hose, and a flange for the wall to attach it to. That way all of the exhaust goes outside rather than accumulating in your garage.

I buy this stuff in rolls then cut to length for each car: http://www.newpig.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10651&catalogId=13007&productId=137777&langId=-1&cm_vc=vc_fast_finder I tried exhaust hose even with a fan to help but didn't like the possibility of CO in the shop Terry

In reading Guenther's post, I think a mat or a pan is what he is after. I understand his issue. When I put the TD in the garage, and it sits a bit, on start up it puts out a black sooty exhaust on the first start up. I would assume soot and condensate. While I use an exhaust tube when working on my MG, this would be a bit impractical for routine parking and start up.
