MG TD TF 1500 - Holes in my bonnet?
| Nearing the final stages of assembly and I've just noticed 2 holes on each side of my bonnet sides-picture attached taken before new paint. They are just 2 holes each filled with a chrome plug of some sort. I don't see these on any other cars out there and I should have filled them during body work - too late now. Anybody have a clue what they were for? Thanks, Ed

| Ed I have the same holes on my TD but I have a British Union Flag attached to them. Regards Mick 52 TD

| I have similar flags on my car but I'm not sure they would match yours. These are my hole locations. They are 64mm apart and 34 mm down from the top edge and appear to be holes for an 8-32 screw. Approx. 1/8" Dia.

There is a flag badge on ebay now. I think in UK. Item #220815509706. Mike

mick, yours look to be on the upper sheet metal and ed's look to be on the side piece...or am i misinterpreting these pics? regards, tom

Ed. Perhaps guide for the bonnet strap used when racing. Thoralf. Norway.TD 4490

...the holes are in the wrong place for flag badges....at least the ones shown... its not a 1500 engine or a MKII is it?
gblawson(gordon- TD27667)
I agree with Tom, they are on (a buldge) on the side panel, and Thoralf, probably for a bonnet strap guide, but I would think that it was a custom side panel,,I've never seen it before... SPW
STEVE WINCZE
I thought there was a bulge or indentation but looking closer it is just the reflection of his fingers...

Guys, I have the flags just like yours but just below my windscreen on each side and these holes are way too wide for those flags. No, not a 1500 or MKII. Bonnet straps! Ohh, I like that idea!! I also have the extra radiator to firewall support on the right side that came with Judson's I've been told. These cars are full of little secrets, aren't they?
efh Haskell
Ed, My TD came with a Judson but no support on that side. I made one up from 2 std supports. Do you have a picture of the correct one either on or of the car? TIA, Mort
Mort TD 1851
| Mort, here is a quickie. Left side goes to firewall, right to radiator. If you need more detail let me know off post. Ed

efh Haskell
Ed, Kind of figured that wasn't it ...posted because it has the Overall dimensions in the ad that I thought looked too small from your picture. Good call by Thoralf....makes sence.
David Sheward
Ed, Thanks for the picture but it is the ends of the rod and how they connect that I was looking for. Whenever you get a chance. Thanks, Mort
Mort TD 1851
ED, Are the holes on a "buldge" in the side pannel??????????????
STEVE WINCZE
Ed, Is that the correct horn in the correct location. Not sure if you have a TD or TF. Regards,'Jim
James Neel
| Mort, here is the firewall side. The radiator side is mounted like normal rod. Steve, no bulge. James, no, my horn (and I only have one) is probably not exactly correct. It's a TD. PO bunged all this up trying to install an air horn that never worked. Low priority for me I guess.

And, yes, I did wind up moving the turn signal relay box under the dash to the correct position. Although, in retrospect, it's correct but very hard to work with.
