MG TD TF 1500 - Hinge for TF Side Curtain Box
G/day Moss dont list this item. It is listed and illustrated on the Anglo Parts web site. Wondering if anyone knows the dimensions of these hinges and a possible source to supply the items. Thanks Graeme

Graeme I just replaced the hinge on my TD side screen box and used a length of piano hinge and fitted full width on the the door. You should be able to get something similar at the hardware store just measure the thickness of the door and match it up to the available hinge. Refards Mick 52TD

Mick Thanks for the suggestion, I would like to retain originality as the rear member of the TF side curtain box is predrilled for butt hinges. Regards Graeme

Graeme, Check these guys out. I don't see any listed, but it's worth a try. I doubt very seriously that you'll find new ones. PJ http://www.sportscarmetalworks.com/index.htm Sports Car Metal Works - Metal works specialising in MGA, T-Type, Triple M, MGB parts

Hi Graeme, To answer your original query, hinges were what was then 'bog standard', 1&1/2" x 3/4" m/s steel, approx. 3/32" thick, 3/16"holes, 5/16" from the ends, with the hinge part approx.5/16" diam. I understand that originally they may not have been painted, (hood and tonneau always down old boy!!!), but most people paint them the colour of the vinyl, and use hex 2BA bolts. They were crude and overstrong by today's standards, but it is an interesting insight into the different (yet perfectly valid!) standards of the post war period. During my lifetime old fashioned ironmongers/architectural suppliers, have stocked such sizes as a matter of routine, and you should still be able to get an adaptable size - weld up old holes and drill new etc. The above sizes are based on those on my 1954 TF 1500, and I believe them to be original - others may be aware of different dimensions! Good luck, John

| I don't seem to have a pic of my hinges handly, so I have used this pic from Colin Stafford showing the correct original hinges in the factory paint (to match the interiour just like the tank-strap Phillips head bolts) Crude just like John said. Matthew.

Matthew reminds me of the 'rumour', that the tank strap bolts Phillips head and washer was hand painted with a small brush by the 'young apprentice' in the factory; if true probably the hinges and hex bolts as well, which could only be properly touched up once fitted! Certainly it is doubtful whether the hinge and hex. bolt paint lasted very long, but it was mostly hidden to a great extent by the folded down hood and/or the rear tonneau. The hinge arrangement could have been less 'agricultural' however, but no doubt cost played a large part, and the hinges could be cheaply bought in, in balk. Cheers, John

Thanks Fellas for all the info, I had surmised the hinges were brass. Graeme
