MG TD TF 1500 - Hidem, how much?

Does anyone know how many yards/meters of HIDEM is needed for the interior of a TD or TF?

Since it comes with the interior kits being supplied by the larger suppliers probably no one has taken the time to measure it. You can measure wherever the hidem is required in the interior of a TD/TF yourself and add a foot or two to get the amount you need.

Yes, of course I can do that, and probably will. But, I am LAZY! I was hoping someone had a kit in the garage, uninstalled. He might take 60 seconds and measure up the roll.

thanks

Here is the reason I asked: my TF had a very nice professional re-upholstery job done in the mid '70's. Everyting is leather. The kick panels, the seat sides, the side panels the door pockets, even the insides of the glove boxes. But....no hidem. I don't know why.
I found a wonderful looking website who sells many, many colors of hidem in vinyl and stayfast.
My question is: what was the typical material on our cars? Is the hidem with the leather/vinyl mix sets vinyl or stayfast?
By the way, I motivated myself this afternoon and measured. Came up with close to 24 feet. Sound correct?

Thanks in advance

Hi Tom,
I'll be interested in what you might find for a source. Our 54 TF was done, also very nicely, and also with no hidem.
tnx,

Tom, the new hidem is vinyl with a two nylon tube inserts. 24 feet sounds pretty good, get 30 feet. The stayfast hidem is for the top.

Tom:
Can you please post or forward to me the web site for the hide-em

Sure guys;

Follow the prompts to the hidem section. Quite a complete selection. I think I'll give up on the stayfast and buy some vinyl.

Thanks.

And.......go to:

Upholstery supplies, then "bindings and trims".

Tom,
On the Moss upholstery kits the hidem doesn't come in a roll...it's already attached to the panels.
Gene

Pardon my ignorance, but what is Hidem?

Frank
Frank Cronin

Doesn't come as a separate role with the kits. The hidem is already sewn to the panels, at least with my kit it was .
L Rutt

Frank,
Hidem is the edging around the interior panels...you spread it apart, hammer in the tacks and then it closes over to hide them.
Gene Gillam

Does the hidem need to be actually stitched to the panel first? Or, are there other ways to attach it? Thanks
TM Going

My interior is intact. What I am planning to do is to remove the door panel tacks and nails and use some type of glue to set the hidem in place. Then I will re-tack the margins down, in the hidem. I may have some challenges on some of the curves, but I will try. Might involve my staple gun at strategic locations.

A pic of my TF showing factory upholstery and hidem. The factory hidem is a bit narrower than what is available today (thinner vinyl).

Matthew, what is the rectangular brass plate attached with the slotted screws?

I don't recall seeing one on my car.

Best,

Frank, that is the dealers plate for the local distributors, Lanes Motors. Each plate is stamped with its own number. These were used on MG's and other Morris imports from the early 1930's through to about 1957.

I have located a source of Hidem in no less than 29 colours! They also have the little end clips.

Have a look at:- http://www.actionup.com/marine/acrylic_binding_hidem.html
