MG TD TF 1500 - heater mounting location

TD people---I have cleaned, fixed and tested what I believe to be a period heater for my '53 TD. It was screwed down to the transmission tunnel in a crooked and ungainly fashion. Any advice on the best method and location for mounting it correctly? Thnaks in advance.....
TCK Tom

Tom, is it an Arnolt heater? They are designed to mount in a cantilevered fashion from the underside of the battery box, above the tunnel. Bud

Tom,
You mention that you believe it is a period heater,,

Any pictures???? That would help in mounting suggestions,,, There were a few different heaters in TD's....

tom, i have the round, period smith's unit. i mounted it to a piece of 1/4 plywood, painted that black and suspended it from the scuttle hoop with a pair of adel clamps. this method would also work with the arnolt heater. regards, tom

If you are still trying to find a good heater for your TD/TF, here's one that is small, and very efficient:- http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/mojave-heater.html.

I agree with Gordon. I installed a Mohave heater and it works great.
It fits all the way back to the firewall and leaves a lot of room over the tranny. I installed it upside down as shown.

My TF had this GM "under seat" heater installed at the Toronto MG dealer, as the story goes. The fan is controlled by a 3 speed knob mounted on the far right of the dash. Keeps us toasty warm in cool weather.
I have heard of other MG's using this type of heater, but have not seen one.
Any of you have one like this?

I also put a plywood mount hanging from the stiffner tube and added an old pickup truck heater.... replaced the original fan with a modern on that gives me a bit more force.... If I was doing it again, i would put it further back along the tunnel.... the doors when open catch my hand when shifting....

Tom Norby,
"My TF had this GM "under seat" heater installed"
Is that an electric heater?

Tom:
A friend of mine (Western Canada) has neaarly the same heater in his TF that he has had for 40+ years. It's a Buick underseat heater.

Mort:
They are coolant heaters - the only elecrical is for the fan.
