MG TD TF 1500 - Goodwood pictures

Hello all,
I've had several people ask me how our trip to UK and Goodwood Revival was. It was incredible, simply put. If you are really interested you can find us on Facebook but I'll post a few pictures here.

We found the UK to be a truly gracious country. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, from the unsolicited uniformed ladies at the train stations whose job it is to go out and find confused tourists and point them in the right direction to the strangers at bus stops asking if we needed help (and we did). We owe a special thanks to Ian and Susie Bowers from this board who made us feel like locals, fed us, housed us for two nights, and gave us an incredible day at Goodwood and some VERY memorable rides in their cars. And to Alan Jones and his wife in Gloucester also from this board who did his best to spend a day with us. (Unfortunately, we made so many wrong turns at the roundabouts it became logistically impossible to meet up with them as planned in our rented Morgan but their invitation will always be remembered! Sorry again Alan.)

Speaking of the Morgan, we picked up a 4x4 on my birthday and drove all day through the beautiful countryside. My impression: it's like my TD with a little more leg room and about 5 times the accelleration. Other than that, it's a bare bones metal/wood to the pavement feel as it should be. Would I buy one (if I could)? I would have to test other options first. Interesting note. Jay Leno was at the factory the day before us (by helicoptor of course) to order his new custom Aero Supersport I believe it's called. Base price: 180,000 Brit pounds. "More money than brains", as he once said of himself.

Anyway, here are a few pictures. This one of the vintage MG racers is my favorite. Everyone is encouraged to dress in "proper period attire":

A few more. I assume these cars were in a race however we couldn't see all the races in the one day we were there. 25 E-Jags flying by at about 120 mpg is quite a sight however!

Vintage bikes were apleanty as well including these military versions. And yes, they raced.

Ian and his beautiful TF in the classic parking area. It's amazing what a 5-speed and a proper tuneup will do on those narrow British roads! We had fun!!

Ian and I getting ready for even more fun...trust me!

Not a great shot, but just for the record...

I get a lot of British car rags and they all go crazy for goodwood. I would LOVE to go at somepoint. It's exactly my sort of gig. Thanks for sharing Ed. I'll look up your FB accts for more details. If you're open to it, I'd like to hear how you went about it (hotel stays etc).

Geoff, very observant! You mean I can't take a Morgan off road? Bummer...cancel my order!

Alex, feel free to email me and I'll be happy to suppy hotel details, etc. Basically we landed at Heathrow, spent 2 nights in London, headed west to Oxford & the Cotswolds by train, rented a car & drove around, then on to Goodwood, then back to London 2 more nights then home. We're tired!

Sounds like a smashing trip! I'll be in touch.

Thanks for sharing. Great trip, maybe I can do that one day! Where was the baby TD? George

The baby was at the vintage car museum at Briton on Water.

Ed - your pix brought back memories of watching the cars from the Bristol to Bournemouth Classic Car Run pass in front of our flat when we spent 2 years in Bristol - the English know how to do classic car events! Also memories of backpacking along the Cotswald Way in 2000 with a group of Boy Scouts - what a beautiful part of the country. Goodwood has been on my bucket list for awhile - hopefully not too far in the future!

Glad I brought back good memories Don.

Ed,

So appreciative you have shared your memories of England this time! In 1987 I spent several nights in London. Nothing to compare with trips to and, nights spent in, Bath, Stratford, and Oxford - as well as many villages visited. I could never spend any money in those glorious pubs when the natives found out I was a "Yank (detected as soon as I opened my mouth)," from Memphis (the Elvis connection)! Thanks for reviving those memories! Hope to return and rent a classic the next time.
