MG TD TF 1500 - GOF Central pictures

For those eager to see photos from GOF Central, I'll post a handful, but downsizing & pasting one at a time is deathly slow.

In a week or so, there will be a great collection posted on the NEMGTR MI Chapter website...

This beautiful MG SA (1938 MGSA 2333 Tickford Drophead Foursome)is the labor of love (33 years!) of Lee Jacobsen, to whom we are all greatly indebted for the tremendous amount of work he volunteered to see that
GOF Central 33 was such a great success.

I tried to catch license plates from numerous states and Canada.

as you noticeall the fabulous cars in the background, many more of them were still out on the road when these pictures were snapped.

Cherry MGBs were plentiful, like this one from Ohio

this beauty belongs to Shari Pelic.

Sandy Kuivenhoven, Chairperson of the Michigan Chapter, is Shari's sister. Sandy put out a superhuman effort to put together this Central GOF, burning the midnight oil and the candle at both ends, for months!!!

Shari's TC was used for the really informative tech session, Vehicle System Balancing, conducted by Andy Abraham of Raven Engineering, from Oxford Michigan. There's a whole lot more to a driveshaft than a chunk of tubing with U joints.

Andy's fantastic Victor TF was jacked up to reveal his driveshaft featuing constant velocity joints. Wished I'd snapped photos of that! I'll ask Andy to post some of his driveshaft... and his car!

another shot of Shari's car, since she put out a great efort, too.

Lee Jacobsen conducted a tech session on his 38 MG SA.

More than just a pretty face! Just visible below the bumper are buitin hydraulic jacks, capable of raise any and all wheels at the same time, from inside the car.

The rounded ends of the front bumper are lead filled, and the bumper assembly is sprung on a leaf spring, in an effort to cancel vibrations.

The retractable top itself, is an engineering marvel.

I sure hope Lee posts his restoration photos on a website. Attending the balancing tech session meant missing much of the SA Tickford tech session.

in the foreground is a fine TF.

After looking at this picture, I realized it is my only photo of my wife, Linda's, 2 TDs (they are her toys). The '50 (Moss Magnacharger) is on the tow dolly and the '51 (Marshall Nordec blower) is in the box of the truck. At the last minute, we decided to get of '51 out of retirement and tote it the 100 miles, and if I brought the truck, I'd drag the tow dolly along in case someone needed a tow East after the show.

When I fired the '51 up to load it on the truck for the show, it backed out of the shop even with the clutch in... the clutch disc rusted to the flywheel, then the clutch rod broke. More aggravation with time running out.

About that time, I discovered the TDs are too narrow for the tow dolly. I spent the evening before leaving welding another ramp on the dolly.

Linda could've driven the car home but I felt it safer to tow it rather than she drive a couple hours in the dark. She drives it daily, and two weeks ago, she drove us to the Gilmore Car Museum and home the same day in 90+ degree heat.

A fun time was had by all.

The Michigan group put on a great event.

I have to second Gary's comment. We met a lot of neat Michigan folks, including many from this forum, and those from other chapters. The Gilmore Car Museum location for the Car show was amazing. The Air Zoo was a lot of fun. But the organization of the show and the superhuman effort the Michigan Chapter displayed was truly appreciated.

I also have to day that Lee's SA was the highlight of the show for me.

Since we are bragging up Lee's car, here is a picture of the restorer himself.

Hi Guys
Will someone put me out of my misery and tell me what a GOF is?
I Googled it and got the following:

The acronym GOF may refer to:
• Gang of Four (disambiguation), a generic title with several meanings
• General Operations Forces, a branch of the Malaysian police
• Goodness of fit, a description of how well a statistical model fits a set of observations
• Gulf of Finland, the easternmost arm of the Baltic Sea
• Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, a 2000 novel by J.K. Rowling
• Grand Orient de France, a Masonic organization in France

Don’t think any of that fits! It is not an acronym used her in England My guess is it is a Gathering Of Friends?

Mike

Mike,

The Acronym was coined by the New England MG T Register and stands for 'Gathering of the Faithful'. Most US MG T clubs are chapters of the NEMGTR, and when we hold 'all club meets' by region, we call them GOFs as well. The Central region is comprised by clubs in Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, Missouri. I think the Kansas club have disbanded, and I don't think Iowa has a chapter.

Thanks Dave

I was close! No doubt the faithful are also good friends.

The term "GOF" was coined by the late Frank Churchill, cofounder of the NEMGTR at the first gathering after the registers formation in 1964. He refered to the first meet as "the gathering of the faithful" and the name stuck.

We had a good time and enjoyed meeting some new people. Thanks, Jim, for the nice comments about our MGB. Great cars!

OK, So where is next years?

Dave, lovely picture of the SA owner. In my country it seems a habbit to compare ones dogs face (and expression) with the owners face. Following this, it is quite remarkable how the curved lines in the SA's front fenders are consistent with the owners curved mustache. What a joy! Greetings, Huib

Thanks for the pics, Jim. Sorry to miss that one. Hope to see everyone next year in St Charles. Dan
