MG TD TF 1500 - GOF 2011 Plaques & great benefits
| Everyone that drove to the Gilmore Car Museum received a real trophy. We were shocked, at the awards dinner, to find our photo mounted on a beautiful wooden plaque. If I'd only known! We hauled our '51 in our truck since it has no plate/insurance this year, and I didn't take the time run it over to the old gas station for a picture (I went to help with the Funkhana). We'd have two sweet plaques top show off if I'd taken the time to get the 2nd TD photographed! If you that that plaque is sharp, you should see the gorgeous hexagonal glass trophies handed out. I can't show you, since we didn't win one. Any winners out that care to show theirs off? This years GOF also included admission to the Gilmore Car Museum. "The Gilmore Car Museum, named one of the Top Five car museums in the nation, features over 200 antique, classic and collector cars on displayed." The name "museum" is misleading, it is a "collection of museums." Also included was admission to the Kalamazoo Air Zoo. You could knock out a whole day there. We were also the beneficiaries of a pair of new gaskets for the gas tank sender unit, thanks to Lee Jacobsen. I can't forget to mention, over the three days of festivities, we enjoyed an OPEN BAR! not done yet...

| First Timers received a really cute glass paper weight commemorating the event. We got a pair since we had two toys there. Next year, I think we'll go as first timers, again! The laminated placard is a nifty keepsake, too. more to come...

| Can't forget the leather coasters, pin and refrigerator magnet handed out to everyone. My wife was tickled to win the leather keyfob and wallet in the silent auction. If that wasn't enough, when we went to the meeting on Tuesday, she was presented with the 7 nice hubcaps she won. She thinks she must have put the tickets in the wrong canister (we already have 4 new hubcaps sitting on the shelf). She also scored a great T-shirt at the live auction. It was from the MG Canberra National Meeting in Australia, circa 1988. How many can say that have one of those! I've got a year to build a valve cover racer. I chose devoting my free time to photos this year, over building a racer, but next year....... The winning photo this year was a shot of, our MI Chapter Chairperson, Sandy's... bottom half, sticking out from under the dash. You'll have to check out all the photos once displayed on the website http://michiganmgt.com We got to watch the slideshow Tuesday. Sandy Kuivenhoven really orchestrated a great GOF Central for 2011! (now would someone show a picture of their spectacular glass trophy/trophies)

| Just saw the plaque that Bob Dobrenski from Vineland, Ont. got when he attended 'and' the 1st place glass trophy for his TC....absolutely top notch items....amazing. Am told the New England higher ups were not happy about something, but the entrants response and the quality of the meet certainly looked like it was right up there with the best....congrats Michigan for a great event! |

| Here is the beautiful glass trophy wh;ich we won for "Preservation" of TF 6688. One of a few unrestored cars at the meet. We also won in the raffle two great bottles of Chardonnay, and open bar was terrrific, especially the Bell's Oberon beer, a Michigan foavorite. The "Girl's" did a fab job on organizing the event and I never saw a hitch during the whole weekend. I did not hear about issues with the NEMGTR, but in all probability they had some....typical. We don't belong to it, so who cares. They might have shown up to see how a really good GOF functioned.

| I was unable to attend this years Midwest GOF but heard nothing but good reports about it. I saw the trophys and the pictures and thought they were OUTSTANDING. I hope the home Club was able to come out even on the whole event. I think the Midwest GOF's are the best in the country second to none. The members are a classy great bunch of folks. If you have never been to a GOF, the Midwest is one to go to. |
