MG TD TF 1500 - Glove box dimension

I had to make new lids for the glove boxes. Does anyone have dimensions for locating the hole through which the windscreen wiper shaft passes please.

Mate this is tricky, having just been through this process myself. There are a lot of variables pending on how concentric the wiper blade shafts are located in the holes in the scuttle.

The method I used was to remove the wiper blade drive mechanisms, temporary fit up the dash with the glove boxes installed and drill a pilot hole down through the holes in the scuttle. Considerable care is required so you dont damage your paint job and to maintain the drill bit in the centre of the scuttle hole and at the correct angle to represent how the wiper blade shaft presents through the scuttle.

After removing the dash I opened up the pilot holes. refitted the wiper blade mechanisms ensuring the shafts were concentric in the scuttle holes. A trial fit of the dash and glove boxes proves whether you have been successful.

A few things I learnt along the way were, there is very little tolerance in the dimensions of the glove boxes and ensure you have space to mount the blinker switch between the glove box and the side bulkhead after you fit upholstery.

I believed the Japs were space savers in their vehicle construction practices they have a lot of learning to catch up with the Brits.
