MG TD TF 1500 - Front Fender to Body

Hi,

I'm (hopefully) at the end of a very long (40 years plus) rebuild process for my 1953 TD and have just now learned (thanks to this marvelous website) that the front fenders attach to the tub by 2 #8 Phillips head sheet metal screws in addition to the bolts holding them to the frame.

My problem is that neither the fenders nor the tub have the holes for these screws; they were filled in when refinished.

Does anyone have a photo or diagram that shows the position of these two screws?

Many thanks!

Found a pair of holes about that size in a front fender. Not sure where they would mate up to the tub/frame. Here are two images showing their location. The second shows a tape measure for reference:

Jon, I looked under Lazarus (my 52TD) and I see the same pair of holes. But, there's nothing in them. I looked at the bottom of the front quarter panel 'from the53' and I don't see any holes that would mate up with that pair. Only thing I can see them doing is holding fender piping in place. Bud

I have the two holes for the wood screws I will get you a photo. They line up with the wood frame at the arch of the door framing in the tub.

The front screw goes in to the verticle piece behind the firewall, the rear screw goes in to the sill wood in the tub.

Thanks to all for your help!

Right now I've a gap between the fender and the tub that is far too wide to span with the piping. The screws should help.

What kind of screws were original? Any kind of washers used or advised? I guess exact location is sort of a random fit within the confines of those that Dave Sander defined.
