MG TD TF 1500 - Front Coil Springs
My TF has odd coil springs on it. One spring I believe is from a early MGB, as it's stiffer than the other, causing a slightly higher lift on that side, about 1/4 inch. Needless to say, I'm going to install new springs. My question is, are the new Moss springs, which are supposedly made of a smaller diameter material, better than the originals by giving slightly more travel and I'm assuming a softer ride. They claim they are better. Has anyone used these new (upgraded) coil springs? PJ

PJ, the MGB springs have a larger inner diameter than the TF springs. Easiest way I know of to tell if you have a mismatched pair. No experience with the Moss springs but our roller cam man Len Fanelli has been touting the advantage of using the rubber bumper MGB springs for quite some time. I think I asked what the advantage was once but don't think I recieved a reply.

LaVerne, The rubber bumper springs, as I've been told, give a higher ride height and is the reason guys who convert to the chrome bumper style use the earlier springs to lower the car, giving a lower look like the chrome bumper models. I don't know what the right spring is off of on my car, but it raises the height enough to just touch the upper bump stop. The left spring gives about a 1/4 inch clearance without the fenders mounted. The diameter of the coil material is also larger. PJ

Yes LaVerne, I like the Higher performance rubber bumper B springs (480#), combined with a B sway bar. The ride is stiffer, lowers the front perhaps 3/4"-1". Push the car into a corner, no under steer or over steer, just neutral.

I too have the B springs (#480) and sway bar and have no lean into curves...
