MG TD TF 1500 - Four hrs to change a tyre
Yes, that is was happened. For the first time I had a flat tyre yesterday. So I had to put on my spare one. Easy, I thought. How wrong I was. First, the new jack that I got with the car, was useless. I could not get it under the lifting point, because it was too high. I tried another point to lift the car, but the jack only lifted 10 cm, so the tyre would not get off the ground. Ok, start again, find the old jack in my cellar, and start all over. That worked ok. Then remove the spare tyre. Sitting behind my luggage rack. Loosened a couple of screws in my Runyan rack. Could not get the wheel out. I had to dismount the bumper (!) before it came out. The new wheel was put on. Easy. But putting the bumper on took a looong time. The long bolt from the bumper goes through the luggage rack holder and then through a distancer (5 cm) and then into the car. The bolts just did not want to find the whole in the car body. Finally I succeeded. I am glad I did not have to do this operation outdoors in rain. But when the spare tire is fixed, it has to go on to the car again. The whole thing once more. But then I shall have all winter...

Raymond, There is a solution to your dilemma. Replace those long bumper bolts with a double-threaded stud (you'll probably have to make it) and secure it using two nuts (so it doesn't become undone when removing). I haven't done it (yet) but it's on my list. I've seen this set-up on another T, and it seems to work just fine. Gord Clark Rockburn, Qué.

I was a bit surprised to find a lamp I have never seen before when I finally had the spare wheel off. Behind the lower part of the wheel I found a red lamp and a wire going into the car. It would be logical to think of it as an extra stoplight, but I don't understand why it was placed where it was, fastened in the holder for the wheel. Nobody will ever have seen it when the spare wheel was on. A mystery.
