MG TD TF 1500 - Flywheel: TC vs TD
Can anyone confirm if the TC flywheel is the same as the early (7.25 clutch) TD flywheel? My early TD needs a flywheel and I've found one that to the untrained eye /appears/ to be the same. I believe this mystery flywheel to be a TC flywheel. Both appear to have 10 3/8" I.D. ring gears. However, my ring gear has 120 teeth and is about 12 1/8" overall O.D., whereas this mystery flywheel's ring gear has 93 teeth and is about 11 3/4" overall I.D. I'm hoping I can put a TD ring gear on this flywheel and be good to go but would like to confirm before heading to the machine shop. Thanks for your help!

I believe the flywheels are the same; but the ring gear is diffrent. If you use an early TD flywheel/ring gear assembly in a TC, you'll need to use a td starter too.

Thanks for the input. As I mention above, though, I'm not putting a TD flywheel in a TC. I've got what I think is a TC flywheel and I'm trying to verify if, assuming it is a TC flywheel, I can remove the TC ring gear, install a TD ring gear on it and use it in a TD. How certain are you that they're the same? Thanks!

Rob, A 2002 Abingdon Spares price list shows different flywheels for TC, early TD, and late TD/TF. So there may be some difference, but don't know what. George

Rob. I have a spare early TD flywheel off my blown engine. I know I changed the ring gear out, but don't know exactly how long ago. I can take a look and do some pictures. If interested, drop me an e-mail

Thanks! I may take you up that, depending on what my machinist tells me.... Cheers!
