MG TD TF 1500 - Engine number
I have a spare engine that I would like to find more info on. I don’t have the car it came out of but I would like to know. I have come across a database or information somewhere that will give me this information. Anyone know where I can find this info off the top of their heads? Engine number is 23532 and it is a td2. Thanks Rich

Rich - engines were not installed in numerical order, although small batches were often installed in groups of cars around the same time. I have seen engine numbers of adjacent cars differ by many hundreds (or more, if an engine was pulled from the line with a defect that was later repaired). My notes on Mark II cars show your serial number range was probably installed in December, 1952 and thereabouts. Unfortunately, there is no database available to search by engine number, only chassis number (http://www.tregister.org/search_prod.php) Tom Lange

Rich, George Merson's list at: http://www.ttalk.info/Merson0211.htm shows this very well. - Tom.

Good day all: Rich: Bring up the UK TRegister facility: www.tregister.org, then click on Production Records, on the LHS of the page. Unfortunately; when using the above a car number must be supplied to bring out all the other pertinent facts. By using known car and engine numbers as a control, then trying random car numbers in between, the engine may possibly be located. I trust I read this one correctly and I am not being taken as overbearing by my reply ! Cheers then; Respectfully: Jack Emdall, TC6768/TD3191, New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada.

Rich, XPAG/TD2/23532 was originally installed into TD23900, which was an export model sent to North America. The production record of the car is here: http://tregister.org/view_prod.php?chassis=TD23900 Best Regards, Steve http://ttypes.org

| Hey guys, Tom Lange you were not kidding, the engines were not put in cars in numerical order at all. Wow, they skipped around almost randomly! Tom Bennett that is a cool site you sent. I sent my info to G. Merson to be added. And to Jack, not overbearing at all! This is such a great site. I got three responses within hours of my post by people from three different countries. Very cool! I did find the info I was looking for at the t-register site. I banged on the keyboard for at least 2 hours punching in random number to finally find the chassis number and manufacture date I wanted. I will post a screen shot. Now, how neat would it be to find out if this car is still on the road somewhere!? Thanks again guys! Very much appreciated! Rich

Oh Steve, if I would of come back and checked the posting a couple hours ago you would of saved me some time...thanks for the info, I found it the hard way! :)

Steve James, if you happen to read this- has there been any effort made to correct the TD records that dropped the last digit of the engine number? Example: My TD is 10835, engine #11249. The 9 is missing off of the number on the web site. Thanks! George

Oh no, Rich! Still, it made your discovery all the more rewarding! The T Register has an entry for the TD you are interested in but it looks to be partial and possibly old info. Still, you could get in contact with the TD Registrar and ask him if he could try to put you in touch with the owner? Worth a shot... the car's record is here: http://tregister.org/found_chassis.php?chassis_no=TD23900 George, although I wrote the original system, I haven't been involved with the MGCC T Register's website for many years now. I recall when you last mentioned the "missing digits" I dug through the records I had and traced the problem all the way back to the original database flat files I received from the person who inputted the data. So unfortunately those digits seem to be "lost" until someone can re-transcribe the records from the handwritten records, something which I would think would be low on the list of priorities for the MGCC unfortunately. I suspect if you contacted the Webmaster of the T Register website he would be able to update your record and add the "missing 9"? Best Regards, Steve.

Rich that link in the previous post didn't come out correctly. Try this link: http://tregister.org/register_home.php and search for TD23900. Should bring up the info on the car. Then click "Make Enquiry" to contact the TD Registrar who *might* be able to put you in contact with the current owner if the contact details are current. cheers, Steve
