MG TD TF 1500 - Engine lock wire

I would be grateful if owners of unmolested TD's could shoot me some pictures of the lockwire placement on the external engine. I recently looked at an original car that had the rear cam bearing retaining bolt lockwire tied to the oil line, which I can't believe is correct! I'd also be interested to know how the oil pump bolts are lockwired, and which ones.

I can see the wire on the center cam bolt in Gordon's 34,000-mile photos (for which, once again, many thanks). The others are hidden in the photos.

Thanks very much.

Maybe "unmolested TD" owners are few and far between! We all like to tinker don't we? Or that is the impression I get from my visits to this site!

Mike

PS I can't help as my TF is heavily molested. Unfortunately it is a long while since its owner was.

The chances of finding an original engine that is known to never have been serviced is very, very slim.

I THINK I have one, and the only way I can be confident is to compare with other cars. Is the 34,000-mile car available for a few more pictures?

Thanks to all.

Tom,

That is where the lock wire was on my TF 1500, when I bought it in 1964 from a museam . It had 8500 miles on the Odometer

Hi Tom, here is a photo of the lockwire on my newly acquired TF 1500. It is where you said it would be. The car was parked in 1958 and I don't think anything has been done to the engine before that.

Un-molested TF 6688, finds wire on the oil line to the block, the cam bolt, and the generator bracket to the block. I cannot see any wire on the oil pump bolts and its difficult det at right now.

I'm imkpressed by both Colin and Hugh, since it's almost impossible to see anything at all in a TF engine bay!

What I had thought not original clearly is, so there you have it!

Thanks to all. Tom
