MG TD TF 1500 - Door security straps
| This started as a thread about something else but leads to the question of a device for holding the door part way open under certain circumstances. "Tom Maine (TD8105), Minnesota, USA here is my car with the hubs/wheels." See image of Toms car below "Mort 1950 TD Möbius, Monroe Twp NJ USA Tom, Your car looks great. Thanks for the info. I see you have a strap with fasteners to secure your door. I like that idea and for another reason. I have locking rubber straps on the inside but your straps gave me an idea. This past summer we were driving on a dreary rainy day and it was very hot out and we were in stop and go traffic. The top was up and side curtains in place. The only real relief from the heat was to hold the doors open when stopped or going slow. I think I will try to make a pair of straps with various holes so we could snap them on and have the doors stay open and get a breeze. I would like to start a thread and with your permission use your photo. Please let me know if this is ok. Thanks, Mort" "Tom Maine (TD8105), Minnesota, USA NO problem, as to heat, Lew Palmer on this board has a system using aluminum or plastic corregated duct to allow a breeze to come in. Open doors can be dangerous. I use the strap to keep the door from flying open as it has done in the past."

| Tom, This past summer I posted a picture of my air conditioning unit. It works fairly good at speed for cooling your feet but is worthless in traffic. Also on a rainy day I have to keep the flap open for the duct to go thru. Not a great idea if the car next to me splashes thru a puddle. I would only hold the door open at 0 to 10 mph.

| Your system is somewhat like Lew's. Nothing is going to work in traffic methinks. the ac units dont really fit these cars do they? |

| Tom, Your car has a lift-a-dot fastener on the front top of the door and mine does not. While I was thinking about adding one (and the corresponding hole in my tonneau), I thought it would be easy enough to get a fabric or leather strap and create a hole at one end for the door knob lever. Then I could put a series of lift-a-dot plugs spaced out at the other end of the strap to put on the fastener on the cowl to give me anything from keeping the door closed, like yours, to openings of various sizes. Should be easy enough to experiment at low cost and without changing anything on the car itself. BTW I use a small spring clamp to hold the flap open for circulation. Does anyone have a better solution? Thanks, Mort

| Klaus, I like the simplicity of your door locks. This is what I did. Mort

| I went with the same ones Guy Reynolds has. Have a small ceramic heater that has a fan mode that helps some on hot days.

| Dave, Is your ceramic heater electric? |
