MG TD TF 1500 - Dashboard Top Chrome Strip

Craig Seabrook was kind enough to sell me the screws for all the chrome on the dashboard on a 52 TD. Chrome wood screws for the glove box, Round head stainless steel sheet metal screws for the bottom chrome strip, and Flat head stainless steel sheet metal screws for the top chrome strip. The only problem I'm having is that my top chrome strip is pre-drilled for a very thin nail. The holes are not counter sunk or big enough for the flat head screws. So my questions is: "Does anyone remember what type of fasteners were used on the top chrome strip around the dashboard?". I think the chrome is original (but I don't know that for sure). The holes in it are definately factory drilled and spaced, and it is cut exactly the correct length. It was held in place by very small brass ribbed nails.

I realize that whatever I use will not be seen, I just want to make sure that I don't mess things up since I don't want to buy a new chrome strip.

Thank you in advance.

My TD is either a very late 51 or a very early 52.

The top chrome strip was held on by nails. I measured the ones I have and they were #17. I bought a box of #17 by 3/4 FH from Mcmaster-Carr but they are not SS.
they are not plated but the ones that were in there weren not plated either.

I could not find SS in that size. I am considering using some #15's in SS that I have. I do have a lifetime supply of the #17's and I would be happy to put enough in an envolop for you If you want.

I also have 100 %2 FH wood scres in ss but would prefer to use the nails.

Patrick, I still have Little-T's original dash and chrome, and the top has nails in it. My new dash is by Craig and it has screws, but I guess his trim is custom made. His complete dashes are awesome and it is easy to tell they are the work of a true craftsman. Check mine out below.

Thank you Jim and Rich for the information, and thank yiou Jim for the offer. I think I still have enough of the brass nails to complete the project now that I know the nails are correct.

By the way Rich, your display stand on top of the piano for your completed dashboard is great. And you are correct, Craig does do a great job.

Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and enjoy your families.

Richard. Wow, that is a work of art. Do you keep it in your living room to show it off?
Bruce Cunha

LOL No Bruce, I knew it was going to be a while before I was able to install it in the car so to prevent it from warping I made the stand. I put it on the piano because it is in a room we do not use, but I started worrying someone was going to knock it off so I locked it away in another room we do not use, along with much of the painted parts waiting to be assembled. Not a good idea to leave out where people can see cause they want to touch, and I don't like my parts being fondled:)
