MG TD TF 1500 - Chirping noise FOUND
| A while back I posted about a Chirping Engine Noise,,,, My initial thoughts were either Timing chain or it’s tensioner, leaking intake/exhaust manifold gasket, something connected with the bad oil front oil seal etc. Then other priorities and the heat got in the way of searching the problem out,,, until finally on Saturday, I made some time, and I found it !!!!!! After FR Millmore and Jim Northrup seconded my thoughts, I went after the gaskets,,, and sometimes "ya can’t see the forest through the trees", I should have seen this before,, the front manifold clamp hidden behind the front fuel bowl had loosened! Maybe because the thick aluminized coating chipped away?? I repositioned the clamp and tightened it up,,, all seems well,, I’m sure some damage was done to the gasket, but I hope it’s good till winter! Anyway, Thanks for all of the help!!!!!!! SPW

| STEVE WINCZE |
| Steve, I have a similar chirping problem with my TD. I have a small exhaust leak at the rear-most manifold stud. When I removed the manifold, I found a small area of the gasket that was burnt. The manifold surface looked to be flat and I replaced the gasket. A couple of months later, the same noise re-appeared. I will have to check the mating surface of the manifold more carefully for flatness nwxt time. |
