MG TD TF 1500 - British summer

Went out on my first good run since getting the car through its MOT a few weeks ago. A 75 mile run through Surrey and Sussex organised by a local MG club. True to form, it rained heavily so I discovered the top is weatherproof, there is a leak between the scuttle and the firewall on the drivers side, resulting in wet feet/lower legs, the windscreen wipers only work intermittently. Despite these small niggles, was pleased with the car's performance; the engine did not falter once.

...well done...you will always like these 'weather' photos way better then regular old sunny day ones....

Excellent!
The way they were meant to be driven.
All you need now is to get it covered with bugs and a good snow/ice storm! (I kind of like mud as well!)
Sounds like the wipers are completly up to spec.
Modes of operation:
Off / Flicker / Ignite!
(intermittent being somewhere between the last two)
Cheers & Great Picture!

On the return trip from the MG gathering in Reno Nevada, Rod Murray and I had the opportunity to use the windshield wipers. I must explain that this was the first time in years that the little motor was called into service. We just about laughed ourselves silly watching the little wiper blades trying to make their way across the windscreen. The speed of the blades was pure agony. Little by little, the speed increased to a slow pace and at times we had to revert to hand power. It was noted that the motor got quite hot but it kept on working and even increased its' speed. Just one more item to put in the memory bank, of a great trip.

MG window wipers may be the reason they invented RAINX. Drove in the rain today and with the stuff on the windshield, you dont need the wipers.

Matt - Your picture looks like July in the Puget Sound area of Washington State (at least it does this summer - it rained most of today, while the rest of the nation is suffering through record heat). One word for the cure to the TD wipers - RainX. Cheers - Dave

...if you pull the front casing off the wiper motor and clean out the 60 year old grease/glue and put white lithium in it, you will notice quite the difference....

Was going for an ice cream run on Friday, July 8, but could not get out of my driveway.

Just attach a snow plow to the front of the "T", and push the stuff across the road......
Wow...what a mess!

Matt:

Here in Alberta, Canada we say: "Last year both days of summer were wet and cold and it may be worse this year."

Looks ugly David. Hope it subsides soon.

Great news Matt!! I had mine out Sunday in the rain, a 100 mile round trip to Newby Hall concours. I find Rainx does the trick, you don't need wipers.

Its Fun in the Sun but still a good in a hood !!!!!!

We were under the umbrella a few times during the day, but it was worth it as I picked up a second in my class out of 120 MG's.

Forget the niggles and enjoy the summer, rain and all happy motoring.

Ten years ago we went down to French Lick, IN for our first GOF. It rained the entire 300 miles like it was a Phillipine monsoon. Then it rained every day during the GOF. However our car had a great top and side windows and we had very little water in the car. Prior to that trip I had cleaned out the solid gunk out of the wiper motor and replacd it with Lubriplate.
Ever since it has worked like a charm.
