MG TD TF 1500 - Brake Line Strap Folding

Does anyone have a closeup of how the brake line strap is folded around/over/under the brake line? Even a profile sketch from one you folks who's clever with a pencil would be great. Tnx. Bud

Bud,

I don’t have a diagram but these instructions should work.

1/ With the loop facing upwards, slide the strap between the brake line and the axle shaft.
2/ Place it so that the brake line is just at the bottom of the loop.
3/ Take the lower end of the strap and wrap it around the brake line, through the loop and downwards, so that it goes in between the brake pipe and axle shaft.(it should make a full circle around the brake pipe.
4/ wrap the loop and the strap around the axle and slip the strap into the loop and fold the strap over.

Let me know if this is not clear

John

This is how I did the front straps holding the wiring harness to the steering rack using a photo of the straps on Matthews TF. Would the brake line straps be the same? I haven't done mine yet as I'm not quite sure like Bud. PJ

A better shot, I hope. PJ

You helped, PJ. Dawned on me that I still had those two clamps on the old wiring. Stripped one off took some images. Now I see how it's done. Thanks to John and JK for your help. Bud

Well done. I made the mistake of not fastening the rear brakeline adequately and it resulted in a trip home using the emergency brake. The navigator found out as I drove into the driveway and was not at all happy. It resulted in the brake line parting at the fitting, I don't think that we realize how much vibration these things are subject to. I have since made up a new brake line and ensured that it is fastened correctly and many miles since it is still working as it should.
