MG TD TF 1500 - Blue Smoke at 5K
| Hmmm..blue smoke when revved after idling, black plug in #2 only, black wet looking piston in #2, compression 165psi across the board, increased oil use. Seems to run OK. None of these symptoms last fall. 5000 miles since complete engine rebuild.I'm thinking its the oil scraper ring on the piston or the valve guide or hopefully the valve seal. Any thoughts or opinions ? |

| Hi Keith, One test I've always done to try and determine if the valve guides are leaking versus the rings, is to squirt a little oil into the chambers through the spark plug hole, to compare compression readings before and after doing so. A large increase in the reading, say about 20 lbs, usually means the rings are not sealing all that great, whereby a small increase in the compression reading would point more towards leaking valve guides. Did you install the Felpro seals when you had your engine rebuilt? Phil |
