There was an article (which I can’t seem to find) in the Octagon Car Club magazine some time ago which recommended Comma Super Coldmaster which is pure ethylene glycol. This is what I have in my TF. The only thing I can remember from the article was that none of the anti-freeze that Halfords sell is suitable. I remember this as I had just purchased 5lt from Halfords which I had put in the radiator a couple of weeks before the magazine arrived. It is always the way of things!

I've been using Bluecol 2 year antifreeze which is ethylene glycol based. It is suitable for XPAG engines but is toxic so care must be taken when filling and when disposing of used antifreeze. I understand propylene glycol based antifreeze is suitable for classic cars and has reduced toxicity but I have not been able to locate any in UK. Comma used to have a product but I believe it has been discontinued.

You need to avoid more modern antifreezes which use Organic Acid Technology (OAT). I believe neither Bluecol 5 year nor 'U' antifreeze is suitable.

Mike, Perhaps this is what you saw.

Interesting link. The Bluecol website currently states that ‘U’ (Universal) antifreeze is suitable for modern engines. So probably not XPAG then!

There are also several items on antifreeze in FBHVC newsletters. General advice seems to be stick to ethylene glycol and avoid long life and advanced antifreeze unless specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Me too Bud! Have it in all my vehicles and farm equipment. Never had a problem with it in 50 years, so why would I change. I use the green as recommended for my equipment in everything. PJ

Thanks for the info. folks. found both bluecol blue and comma super cold master on Amazon £17.99 and £18.32 for 5 litres, free delivery.
Thanks again Adrian Wells.

I've got to agree with Bud and PJ,,, what's wrong with using the ol standby Prestone???? Why try to reinvent the wheel?? IMHO, there is nothing special about the MG motors that need anything other than plan ol' antifreeze...
