MG TD TF 1500 - Another question on condensers
| Got my replacement condenser yesterday. Looks absolutely nothing like the one that was in there. My points plat had a large aluminum tab that folder over the condenser to hold it in place. No other mounting method. The condenser itself was almost 2" long and half inch diameter. Has a brass terminal on the one end with a solid aluminum strip that runs down to the points connection. The one I received is the standard little unit with wire pig tail. Had to drill a hole in the points plate to mount with a screw. Car started right up so it works ok. Will have to get it warmed up fully to see if indeed that was my running problem. Question though, on the condenser that was in there. I have to assume that might have been an original style unit. Strange mounting method. Can anyone confirm? |

| Originals I've dealt with were soldered to that fold as you described. |

As a testing meausure I have mounted a condensor on the outside if the distributer and attached the pigtail on the outside. One time on the road with a VA I had to hang a condensor with a piece of fence wire and attach the pigtail to the coil itself. Finished a 250 mile trip that way. Sandy |
