MG TD TF 1500 - Another One

On Nov 7, 1950, TD4224 rolled out of the plant and started it's journey to Canada. I'm not sure what happened to it during the next 7 months, but I picked it up from the dealer in early June 1951. It has taken me through many experiences and events in my life, and is still giving me great pleasure. What more can you ask of a car? Happy Birthday Little Friend.

A very happy birthday to TD4224. How great to have had your TD all that time George. Here's to many more happy miles and adventures in your TD. The painted tub of my TF was delivered on Monday the 7th, so we both had something to celebrate. I'll spend from now until late spring installing everything that goes into the tub, and hopefully will have the TF on the road this summer.

Thank you John,
It's great to hear of your progress. Another good reason to have "one" for Nov. 7th. The MG is now away for the winter, and the skis are out, as the snow is flying at the upper levels. I love the variety of our seasons, I only wish the driving period was a little longer. Keep at it John, it's worth every hour you put into the effort.

Congrats George. To be the original owner. WOW that is something.

Now here is an idea. At the next GOF, lets line the cars up by their birthdate.

Thanks Bruce,
That would be a great challenge wouldn't it. I believe you and I have the closest birthdays that I have discovered on the BBS. There is a TD in Australia that came out next to mine, and I would like to contact him but have no way of reaching him as he has not been on the Forum. It would be nice to know if he still has the MG. When I had the TD down to Reno in June, "we" were celebrating 60 years as a team. Where did the time go? Thanks again for your comments.

George, I know a lot of T type owners in Oz. Email his name and state and I will see if I can locate him.
I found a TF in the next town to me in the Adelaide Hills that is 3 numbers off mine.

George,

My father was the second owner of my TD and now I am the third, although since I have been around the car since I was born I actually feel like I am also the second owner. But to have actually purchased the car new 60 years ago and still have it is just amazing. How many people think about cars they onced owned and now wish they still had. I have never driven mine, only been a passenger. That first drive is going to be fantastic. November 7th is a great date for both of us. You got a great car built on that day and I got a great wife born on that date. As far as lucky goes I believe I am slightly ahead of you:)

Happy driving.

Hi Don,
Thanks for your kind offer, but the only information I have is, TD4226 is registered to Bob Pidcock on George Merson's list, and the only address is Australia. Not much to work with, but I do appreciate the offer. Regardless of the outcome, it's great to communicate with another "T" owner.

Congratulations from the East, too George. Plus, I'm glad to have met you in Reno this year.

I too am an original owner, but my TF is 4 years younger than your TD.

So, as both being original purchasers and continuous owners, you win the leather medal!

Hi Rob,
It appears that we are both lucky. My wife had her own TD in the early 50s' and we were both involved in motorsport in many ways. As a twenty year old, the MG represented something quite different then, than what it does to-day. Belated Happy Birthday to your wife.

How about a word or two on your TD. The first drive is something to look forward to. When might it happen?

George,

I have a long way to go. I am very close to having the engine and gearbox back in the frame but one last bolt that the head twisted off is holding me up. I hope to do the preliminary start up at the first of the year, then it is on to the body. There is no damage to the metal or wood so I hope the sanding and new paint will not take to long. I suppose the shorter answer is I hope to be driving by the end of next summer.
