MG TD TF 1500 - Another 'Mark II' Pimpmobile
Although I wrote the seller two days ago to tell him that this is not a genuine Mark II car, that he - like others before him - has confused Mark II and TD2, I see he hasn't bothered to correct the listing. I can't say that a seller with zero feedback inspires confidence. I'm surprised that this car has already reached $10,000 with 8 days to go. Does anyone else find this a singularly unattractive 2-tone paint job? To me, it's just an unhappy variation on the John Deere car! Tom Lange Bar Harbor, Maine

Tom Will you give the e-bay number as I can't find the car you are talking about! Mike

Thanks Tom Why do people go for two colours when T's look so good with just one? I think the colour range that Abingdon originally offered should cater for most people’s tastes but, as the say over here, "There's nowt so queer as folk". There is obviously one gentleman on this planet who thinks two tone brown with whitewalls tyres is pretty cool! Mike

| Mike, RE: two tone cars. I think it is an 'imprinting' thing. If the first really cool car they saw (even a Rolls, or a Riley) was two tone, they might believe it looks really great. My TD for years was red over black with a ton of chrome. It took me quite a while to appreciate the simplicity of an original color scheme after 25 years of the opposite! warmly, dave

Well, It looks better than the John Deere car. I find the vinyl tonneau to be ugly, but that's a $500 fix. The dash is more padded than I like, and the wiring looks a bit slap dash. The other stuff I could live with for a while if it drove nice. Notice the guy doesn't put his side curtains under the single flap? But Brown on Brown... pretty bad choice, I have to admit. warmly, dave

But Brown on Brown... pretty bad choice, I have to admit. Here is an early Moss cover. I have always admired this paint job, admittedly its a TC but I have always liked this. My grandmother used to say "Everyone to his own taste, said the lady as she kissed the pig"

...I sent him a note and he was quite pleasant... Thanks. You are absolutely correct. I tried to correct this mistake but ebay will not let me because bids had al;ready been submitted. I am doing every thing I can to correct the error. Regards, Bill Westerman

I can forgive anyone their taste in colours if they love T types! Mike

The color scheme is a variation on the old "Cream Crackers" combination that a prewar racing team used. I don't find it that objectionable. In general terms, other than the mixup over the TD II designation, which isn't all that uncommon, the little car is being fairly represented. It doesn't claim to be a restoration - he accurately describes it as "rebuilt." He clearly says that the seats are covered in vinyl. The seller isn't "puffing." I could see this little one going for between $ 13 - 15,000 depending on how it drives. It's a driver car, it's as good as it's going to be as it sits. If the wood and chrome are sound and there are no body and frame flaws it could be a good base for a more proper restoration. Apparently he has spent quite a bit on the paint and paint prep work. I'm curious to see how high bids go and if the price point I estimate will cover his reserve. If it's much higher the seller is being overly optimistic. BobbyG

Here is how I was going to paint Little-T in the beginning but later decided to go back with the original Autumn Red (or close as possible) and let the body lines do the talking instead of the paint scheme.

Richard - I like that swoosh on a Bugatti, but the proportions are tough on an MG. Tom Lange

I think you might be right Tom, but Duesy's had the swoosh starting up at the center of the radiator cap and then came down along the hood and down and back. That may look better, it would visually lengthen the hood and shorten the back. I have an extra TD frame with title so maybe when I get Little-T finished I might make an MG hot-rod just for fun.
