MG TD TF 1500 - Air cleaner manifold
I have a problem with the bolts into the air cleaner manifold, they are vibrating loose despite using lock washers. It would appear that the threads are damaged and not gripping the bolt. Can anyone tell me what size the bolts are and any experience with Helicoil or similar methods of restoring the threads. Thanks guys I know someone out there has the answer. Mick TD 22307

| Mick, Are you talking about the one in the attached image? If so, it is 8x1mm french metric thread. I've had good success with helicoils in marine engines (aluminum), I see no reason why it wouldn't work here. A modern metric 8x1mm (fine pitch) should do. warmly, dave

If they are torqueing down okay and not stripped, why not try some lock-tite?

Dave Yes thats the little blighter, 2 of the bolts keep shaking loose need to tighten them up every 20-30 miles. Carry a coulpe of spares just incase. Mick

Mick - Helicoils or Recoils are definitely in order. You should be able to get them from Uni Thread at: http://www.uni-thread.com/ Cheers - Dave
