MG TD TF 1500 - air cleaner hookup

Hello all-----am finishing up '53 TD---found a good air cleaner manifold at the Brirish Invasion this weekend---still need the oil bath cleaner but have a question regarding same------I know the original air filter connected to the valve cover yet what I believe to be the original valve cover has no vent pipe--it has a protuberance that is not bored for venting and is pointing toward the carbs rather than the other way----------any insights?----thanx in advance... FYI---the British Invasion in Stowe was very good---many beautiful cars and great weather.

I'll bet the valve cover you have is from a TF. They need an outlet to the rear of the front carb.

Pretty sure TD valve cover vent comes out "top" ...TF comes out "side"? Am I correct?
Picture would help as Gordon said.
