MG TD TF 1500 - Adjustable clutch control rod.

Anyone using one of these? Are they worth the extra money? PJ

Hi Paul, I installed one of these on my car. I had to grinf a little material off the egde of the fitting at the clutch lever end, as there was some interference with the bell housing when activated. Other than this it appears to be quite heavy duty and I like the extra "meat" around the clevis pin holes. Phil

Hi Paul,

When you ask if this is worth the extra money, how much is this rod? The adjustable Moss part is $49.95.

I did it a little different in my TD. Cut the tube in half and welded in two nuts to the end. Then used threaded rod.

That IS the "adjustable Moss part for $49.95". So, has anyone bought one of these new "Cobalt" ones? I too would like to know if they are helpful in keeping the clutch well adjusted.

When I get down to pulling the engine, I'll see what need replacing. Good or bad the throw out bearing gets replaced and anything else that's in there, along with any seals that need replacing. If the clutch rod is worn, I'll replace it with an adjustable type. While in the process of working on the engine, I have to replace the front crank seal, pan, timing gear cover gaskets and head gasket. There's a very faint coolant weep behind the exhaust manifold at the head gasket. Just might need re torquing, not sure until I get in there. PJ

Paul. When you have the manifold removed I would suggest that you remove all the expansion plugs and clean out the small 3/16" drain hole in behind the small plugs There may be two of them in some blocks. It is far easier now to replace those plugs with manifold off than doing it later on the road. Check the rear plate on the cylinder head for corrosion along with the plug below it.
Far better to do it now.

Looks a lot like the stainless one I have. Did the mod to to my clutch lever ...but haven't tried it yet as I noticed a leak in one of the front brake cycilnders I need to fix first...so still up on the rack.
The "kit" I had purchased had both rods ..but the one was not useable. (too short and "straight".)
