MG TD TF 1500 - A bit more progress...

I think folks like to see these progress pictures so I added a few more to Facebook. The 3 at the end of the album date 7/17/2010. This puppy will be primed/sealed 100% very soon. Then it's time for more, more primer. LaVerne has then volunteered to come over and help me sand it off! As I remember, it's his favorite task (next to removing undercoat).

Looking good Ed. As for the sanding...bring the tub over to my shop and I'll watch ya...till I run out of beer. Think my finger prints are just starting to grow back. Seriously whatever day I might have said I'd help sand.....I'm pretty sure I'll be out of town lol.

Wife said one of the contractors she knows came into the office and asked if I was still messing with MG's. Shes said ya. He says hes got a friend that wants to sell a TC...needs restored. Funny... she didn't get any contact details.

Ed, How did you clean up the chassis? I'm assuming it wasn't blasted. PJ

PJ, Gunk then sand blasted by me 70 grit, all sides, then 2 coats Rustoleum 7777. There are pictures & a link to a Youtube video showing all that action. I'm still blasting the last 2 pieces - about 30 bags of sand later @ 100lbs each! Probably about $500 worth of sand!!! Reclaim some? Not in my windy mountain environment. I know what LaVerne is saying right about now - and I don't want to hear it. But I learned a valuable(?) new skill!

I just found a place near me that builds farm machinery and prior to painting, they sand blast everything to get the scale off the steel. I was just told they will do side work if the blaster isn't busy. I'm checking with them Monday. PJ

Question what grit they use. I would not go coarser than 70, especially on the body panels & tub. I think the chassis can take anything they throw at it.

...and be careful of sand on body panels....can warp easily? If using soda, be sure to ask what you use to wash down the 'whole' car afterwards...soda and paint don't do well together....chopped corn husks work (but don't get the bag wet) and various nut shells ground up can be used.....
