MG TD TF 1500 - 54TF spare tire holder picture

The shop that I took 19 pieces to over 2.5 months ago to have painted has managed to 'misplace' the bracket the holds the spare tire on. I have tried to describe it to them but a picture of one would be better. Does anyone in TF land have a picture of one they could send me that I could print and take to them. Either on or off the car would be fine. This has really got me worried. If you saw their shop you could understand how a piece could vanish. They must have 12-15 custom jobs they are working and there is piles of crap all over the place. When I took my stuff there they said it would be done in about 3 weeks! If this is indeed lost I'm not sure what my options are to get another one.

Thanks.... John

This is from the "Service Parts List." #162 is the head used for disc wheels, #163 is the WW set-up.

The Moss catalog is very helpful for this sort of thing.

David, thank you. This will give them a good idea of how it looks. The WSM, on page I-2, shows a spare tire bracket but it's for a TD even though the grill in the picture looks to me like it's a TF grill.

Tom, nope. Neither Moss nor Abingdon show the TF spare tire bracket. This was the first place I looked. Don't think you can buy these anywhere.

John here's a photo of mine during the dismantling of the car. Hope that it turns up.

In Dave Werblow's posting - item #163 for WW - what is that little hook on top? My TF doesn't have that. I am presuming it keeps the wheel from revolving.
Am I missing something on my spare tire mount?

Steel wheel version.

Rick
My TF does have that hook. Yes, it prevents the wheel from revolving on the mount.

My little hook broke off, but then I discovered that you could very effectively tighten the w/w spare hub spinner by turning the wheel a little on the mount. I can get the spinner really tight without hitting it.

Another thing I never noticed...No "hook" here!
Never been an issue though as Matt said fits tight.
Only "issue" I had back there was my lisence plate bracket. I had to change it a bit as stock set up did not work well with my huge radial tyre. (p205/70r15 on Dayton 7.5 60 spoke wires)

Life is good once again!! Went back to the paint shop this afternoon with pictures in hand only to have them tell me they had found it last night after a long search. They didn't bother to call me. It had not been painted along with all the other pieces. I told them I needed it by the middle of next week...LOL! Thanks again to all for your help...

John ,
Great that they found it!
I know well that sinking feeling. I have chased a shop through 3 locations over 3 years now about a rare missing trim piece for our Opel. (left for re-chroming and warned it was a hard piece to find) He keeps telling me he will "get one for me off e-bay" but backs off when price goes over $200. I keep telling him they are not getting any cheaper, (when they do come up closer to $500 now). Found his "new location" about a week ago but fear I am going to have to buy one and end up in small claims court with the guy.
Glad you have a different option!
