MG TD TF 1500 - 54TF Bracket - What's it for??

There are brackets on the dumb irons of my TF that did not have anything attached to them when I got the car. Does anyone know what they might be for? Maybe for some sort of sway-bar hook-up? Picture shows the one on the left side. They look to good to have been put on by some DIY'er! Any thoughts or ideas appreciated...

Yes ...those are the mounts for the horns.

Yes, those are horn brackets but they should be installed on the inside of the frame arms, facing inward. They provide stiffening support for the two holes in the bottom of the frame arm where the horns mount

Many thanks for the good info provided. I have my horns bolted to the two holes in the bottom of the frame arm and assumed this was correct and the brackets were for something else that I did not have. The brackets must have been put on the way they are by a DPO. I cannot remember if the horns were attached to them or where the way I have them when I got the car. I will move the brackets to the inside where they are suppose to be. Seems like a lot of steel just to hold the horns in place. Again, thanks for the quick responses. Heading out of town this AM for a bunch of days so will get it corrected when I get back.

I agree with that! I've also wondered why the extra bracket. It might be a carry over from an earlier design. Knowing the TDs horns mount on the fire wall, does the TD frame have these brackets or the three holes in the dumb iron? PJ
