Mr Irwin,
Hope your parts find a good home.

About a decade ago, an old codger that owned a body shop down the block offered me an MGA engine/tranny package for free. He'd dropped a 283 in the car and couldn't stand the idea of junking the original engine, so he saved it for about 30 years.

I had it setting around for about 6 months and decided there was no use for any of it in our TDs. One night, about 1 AM, I decided to post it somewhere on this website, then went to bed. Around 11 AM, a guy called me and made me swear not to sell it until he could get over with the cash. At noon, he showed up with 5 crisp hundred dollar bills and started drooling over the engine. He had a cherry MGA with no engine/tranny. Easiest $500 I ever made; wished I'd have asked maybe $2000 for it!

Hold off heading to the scrap yard! There's GOLD in them thar junkers!

Hey,

There's a 4.3 cwp for free. They're getting more difficult to find, now.

Great observation Gordon. They go for about $300 or so now?

Wire wheels on the MGA?

Will the MGA tranny fit in a late TD?

Cheers,

Jim,

Don't even thibk about it!

First, the 1958 was a non-synchro first gear - you'd be no further ahead.

Second, the high starter position would require cutting into the tub.

And I suspect the gearbox mounts would be different, requiring chassis mods.

Forget it!

Gordon,

I forget, what was my idea?

Jim Neel,

My response was to your " ... Will the MGA tranny fit in a late TD?"
