MG TD TF 1500 - 1954 MG TF Noisy gearlever

I have a "chattering" sound coming from my gear lever when in 2nd and 3rd gear (also in 4th but not so noisy). Any ideas please as to what the cause may be? Possibly the remote linkages? What can I do to cure it?
